Eliza: Duskfire Enigma ANIMATION

Crimson Thirst Beneath the Remembering Moon

Eliza awoke buried in velvet. The drapes of her coffin fluttered like sighing shadows as she rose, brushing dust from her smooth arms. Night had not yet peaked, and the moon—swollen and pink as a bruised pearl—hung low over the ruined gardens of the old estate she’d claimed for the season. She felt the ache again, a deep gnawing in her core, a hunger that rattled the chains around her immortality.

“Another night, another reminder,” she murmured. Her voice trembled with an elegance sharpened by centuries.

But it wasn’t blood she craved.

Not tonight.

A cold wind curled around her feet as she ascended from the crypt, carrying a scent that tightened her throat—a scent like rotting jasmine. The hunger demon had found her again.

Eliza stood on the balcony, her red gown shimmering like spilled wine. Fog clung to the manicured hedges, and beyond the iron gates, something shifted in the mist. A tall figure, impossibly thin, its limbs bending wrong, its head tilting as though listening to something beneath the earth.

Its voice—when it came—was a whisper dragged across wet stone.

“Eliiiizaaaaaa…”

Her fangs tingled. “You grow more unpleasant each time I see you.”

The hunger demon took a step forward, its face a hollow mask of endless appetite. It fed not on flesh, but on memory—stealing recollections like petals plucked from a flower. Eliza knew its rules: it could be weakened only through memories freely shared. But sharing created intimacy, and intimacy created temptation. And temptation… always had consequences.

“You look starved,” she taunted.

The demon’s jaw unhinged slightly. “I smell your emptiness.”

“Rude.” She smoothed her hair. “But accurate.”

The creature surged, closing the distance in three elongated strides. Eliza leapt from the balcony, landing in the courtyard with a swirl of crimson fabric. The night trembled.

“You cannot outrun the forgetting,” it hissed.

“I don’t need to outrun it,” she replied, summoning a crimson shockwave that cracked the stones beneath them. “Just outsmart it.”

Yet even as she forced the demon back, she felt her strength dim. She’d fasted too long from the memories of others—her chosen food of this century. Human recollections tasted like warm light; demon recollections like cold fire. But the sweetest memories were her own…and she no longer dared touch them.

The demon lunged. Its claws swept the air, slicing the fog. Eliza dodged, barely.

“Enough,” she hissed. “If you want to feed—earn it.”

The demon froze.

A bargain.

And bargains with demons always curled their way into truths one did not wish to face.

“Tell me,” it crooned, “a memory you
