Rain lashed against the Baxter Building windows, each drop a tiny explosion of sound echoing through the sterile silence of the laboratory. Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, stood at the center of the room, her anxiety tightening her throat like an invisible hand. Gone were the days of sleek black bodysuits and confident pronouncements. Today, she was clad in a simple white lab coat, her usually vibrant blue eyes clouded with fear.

Across from her stood Professor Vladimir Volkoff, a man whose reputation as a telepath far preceded him. He had sought out the Fantastic Four, offering his expertise to help them combat a looming alien threat. But something about Volkoff's cold, calculating gaze and the unsettling smirk that permanently resided on his lips had gnawed at Sue from the moment he set foot in the Baxter Building.

"The neural bridges are in place," Volkoff announced, his voice dripping with a theatrical Russian accent. "Now, let us delve into the collective unconscious of the Fantastic Four, and extract the knowledge we need to defeat this extraterrestrial menace."

Reed Richards, ever the optimist, adjusted his spectacles. "An ambitious undertaking, Professor," he said, "but with your guidance…"

Sue cut him off, her voice shaky. "Reed, I don't like this. It feels…invasive."

Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, scoffed. "Come on, Sue, what's the worst that could happen?" He cracked his knuckles, small orange flames flickering to life around his fingertips.

But Sue wasn't reassured by her brother's bravado. Volkoff's smile widened, revealing a row of unsettlingly sharp teeth. "Fear not, Invisible Woman. This is a necessary step. A mere bridging of minds."

Ignoring her mounting apprehension, Sue nodded. They gathered around a circular table, their foreheads almost touching. Volkoff placed his own hand in the center, and with a chilling incantation, initiated the process.

The world dissolved into a whirling vortex of colors and emotions. Sue found herself bombarded with fragmented images – Reed's relentless scientific curiosity, Ben Grimm's buried insecurity beneath his gruff exterior, Johnny's fiery impulsiveness.

But what disturbed her the most was the intrusion into her own mind. Volkoff waded through her memories, her triumphs and failures, her deepest fears and vulnerabilities. It was a violation, a psychic striptease that left her exposed and terrified.

Suddenly, the fragmented images coalesced. They found themselves on a desolate alien world, facing a creature unlike anything they had ever encountered. It was a pulsating mass of pure energy, radiating a malevolent intelligence that froze Sue's blood.

"This is the enemy," Volkoff's voice boomed in their minds, not with his usual accent but with a chilling alien cadence. "Together, we will destroy it."

But it was a trap. Volkoff, overwhelmed by the power of the entity's mind, had become a conduit. He wasn't seeking to help them battle an alien threat; he was offering the Fantastic Four as a sacrifice.

A wave of mental anguish slammed into them. They were puppets on invisible strings, their thoughts and actions controlled by the monstrous entity. Sue fought back, desperately trying to break free of the telepathic hold, to regain control of her own mind.

She reached out to the others, her voice a silent scream echoing in their shared minds. "Fight it! Don't give in!"

Images of their past flashed before her – facing Galactus, battling Doctor Doom, rising from the ashes of their destruction. These were memories of resilience, of a team that had overcome seemingly impossible odds.

Slowly, a flicker of defiance sparked in Reed's eyes, then Ben's, then Johnny's. Each of them, fueled by those shared memories, began to fight back. The telepathic hold wavered, momentarily weakening.

Sue seized the opportunity. Gathering the remnants of her force field power, she projected it inwards, creating a psychic shield around their collective minds. It wasn't perfect, a shimmering bubble with cracks and imperfections, but it was enough.

The entity screamed, a sound that ripped through their minds like a sonic boom. The alien world dissolved, and they found themselves back in the Baxter Building laboratory. Volkoff lay unconscious on the floor, his face pale and bloodless.

Sue collapsed onto a nearby chair, her body trembling, sweat soaking her lab coat. The others were battered as well, their faces mirroring
