Ahsoka: Shadow of the Empire by Jade Gretz

Ahsoka Tano, Togruta warrior and ex-Jedi, navigated the desolate labyrinth of the abandoned Hutt Palace on Tatooine. The midday sun beat down mercilessly, baking the cracked and crumbling adobe walls. Dust swirled around her boots, each exhalation a plume of white against the oppressive red sky.

This wasn't a place for memories. This was a hunting ground.

The rumors whispered on Ryloth – whispers of an ancient evil festering within the palace walls, a creature of legend called the K'lor'slug. A being of pure shadow, it fed on fear, its touch leaving victims paralyzed, their minds trapped in a never-ending nightmare.

Ahsoka shouldn't have been here. After the fall of the Empire, she'd sworn off grand quests and intergalactic conflicts. Yet, the pleas from the Ryloth Council, the terror in their voices, stirred an old fire within her.

Suddenly, the air grew colder, a palpable shadow settling over her. The hairs on her arms stood on end, the Force screaming a warning. This wasn't ordinary fear, a predator stalking its prey. This was pure, unadulterated terror.

Ahead, the palace hallway, once filled with opulent tapestries and chattering slaves, was shrouded in a swirling blackness. It pulsed and writhed, a living entity hungry for the light.

Ahsoka ignited her lightsabers, the blue blades humming to life in the suffocating darkness. Her senses went on high alert, attuned to the Force, searching for the source of the darkness. The K'lor'slug.

The shadow tendrils lashed out, thick and inky black, coiling around her ankles, anchoring her to the spot. Fear, a primal instinct, threatened to overwhelm her. But Ahsoka, seasoned in the crucible of war, slammed down the mental shields she'd built after years of fighting the dark side.

"You feed on fear," she snarled, her voice unwavering despite the cold dread that threatened to freeze her heart. "I have none left to offer."

The shadow pulsed with renewed intensity, its dark tendrils tightening, digging into her flesh. But Ahsoka, fueled by a righteous anger, fought back. She channeled the Force, pushing it outwards in a wave of white-hot energy.

The tendrils recoiled, shrieking in a sound that scraped at her very soul. The darkness, weakened momentarily, receded back into the hallway, revealing a grotesque silhouette within its depths.

The K'lor'slug. It resembled a giant slug, its obsidian body pulsating with malevolent energy. Its single, glowing eye, like a malevolent red star, locked onto Ahsoka. A wave of sickeningly sweet terror slammed into her, an attempt to bypass her defenses and overwhelm her mind.

Ahsoka gritted her teeth, picturing the faces of the scared children on Ryloth, the faces of the innocent. This fear wasn't hers to succumb to. It belonged to the victims the K'lor'slug had claimed.

She channeled that anger, fueling her lightsaber strike. A double-bladed blur slashed through the air, cleaving the K'lor'slug's eyeless stalk. The creature roared in fury, the sound a wave of pure hatred that assaulted her.

But Ahsoka was no stranger to pain. She had faced down Sith Lords and battled countless monstrosities. This was just another foe to be vanquished.

The K'lor'slug retaliated, its body contorting, splitting into multiple smaller slugs. They swarmed towards Ahsoka, snapping and hissing, seeking the chinks in her armor. Fear, insidious and whispering, slithered into her mind. One bite, one touch, and she'd be trapped in an eternity of her own worst nightmares.

But Ahsoka was a master of Soresu, the defensive lightsaber form. Her blades became a swirling blue vortex, deflecting the slugs' attacks. She danced through the swarm, her movements precise and deadly, fueled by her unwavering resolve.

One by one, the K'lor'slug minions fell, their black bodies dissolving into harmless dust when severed from the main body. But the main creature, its rage a tangible entity, continued its onslaught.

It lunged at her, its maw agape, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth. Ahsoka, using the Force to predict its movements, leaped back, landing on a crumbling balcony overlooking the vast desert expanse.

The K'lor'slug, unable to stop its momentum, slammed into the wall, its body embedding itself deep into the ancient adobe bricks. This was her chance.

Ahsoka, her breathing heavy but resolve firm, leaped towards the creature. With a Force-amplified cry, she plunged her lightsabers into its pulsating back.
