Kara Zor-El, her heart a whirlwind of sorrow and fury, stared down at the shattered cityscape. The once-proud buildings of National City, now jagged teeth tearing at the bruised sky, reflected the wreckage within her. The man she'd once called friend, mentor, hero, stood atop the highest peak of this ravaged landscape, his form twisted and grotesquely beautiful. His once-familiar features, now etched with a chilling madness, were the only thing that remained recognizable.

It was Orion, the fallen hero, the one who once vowed to protect the innocent. He was now a grotesque mockery of his former self, a harbinger of nightmares that had plagued her dreams for weeks. His skin, once the bronze hue of a sun-kissed warrior, now bore an eerie, luminescent sheen. The lines on his face, once the map of a life well-lived, had warped into jagged fissures, pulsing with a malevolent energy. His eyes, the windows to his soul, had become black pits, devoid of the kindness and light that had once shone within them.

She had known this day would come. She had felt it in the shuddering tremors of the earth, heard it in the howling winds that whispered his name, seen it in the shadows that danced around her, whispering promises of his return. But even knowing, even bracing herself for the inevitable, it did not make the reality any less horrifying.

Orion's power, once a beacon of hope, had now mutated into something darker, something insidious. The same energy that had once propelled him to save lives now surged through him like a ravenous beast, tearing at the fabric of his very being. His strength, once a testament to his courage, had become a terrifying instrument of destruction. His voice, once a comforting baritone, was now a raw, guttural growl that echoed through the city like the pronouncements of a vengeful god.

"Kara," Orion spoke, his voice a low growl, "you are the only one who truly understands the darkness within me. You, more than anyone, know that I am no longer the man you once knew. The darkness has consumed me, it has claimed me as its own."

She felt the echo of his words, the raw fear and desperation they carried, resonating deep within her own being. She knew, with a certainty that chilled her very soul, that he was telling the truth. The man she had known, the man who had guided her, had been swallowed by the darkness. All that remained was a hollow husk, a twisted shell of what he once was.

"I never wanted this," she said, her voice strained. "I never wanted to see you like this, Orion."

He turned his head, the unnatural luminescence of his skin casting eerie shadows on his face. "Don't lie to me, Kara," he said, his voice a rasping hiss. "You know what lies within me. You know I am a monster."

She couldn't deny it. The truth was a jagged shard in her heart, twisting and turning, threatening to rip her apart. She knew he was right. The Orion she had loved was gone, replaced by something terrifying, something that wore his face but held no semblance of his soul.

"What happened to you, Orion?" she asked, her voice a mere whisper, laced with despair. "What happened to the man I knew?"

A chilling laugh echoed through the ravaged city. It was a sound that tore at the very fabric of her being, a sound that threatened to drown her in its icy despair.

"He is gone, Kara," Orion replied, his voice a cruel mockery of his former self. "Consumed by the darkness, just as you will be. You will see it, too, Kara. You will see the monster that lurks beneath the surface, the monster that you have always been trying to suppress."

He stepped forward, his eyes burning with an unholy fire, his every movement radiating a palpable, chilling energy. His hand, scarred and distorted, reached out towards her, his touch a promise of unimaginable pain.

"Join me, Kara," he whispered, his voice laced with a hypnotic allure. "Let the darkness consume you. Let it free you from the shackles of your humanity. Let it make you whole again."

Her heart pounded in her chest, a frantic rhythm that threatened to burst out of its confines. She knew she had to stop him, she knew she had to save him, but the fear that gripped her was like a vise, crushing her very soul. It was a fear she had never known, a primal terror that resonated with the ancient instinct to flee.

"No," she said, her voice a strained rasp. "I won't let you win, Orion. I won't let you take me, too."

He chuckled, a hollow, chill
