Ami Gez crouched low against the jagged rocks, the oppressive heat of the desert planet weighing down on her as she peered over the ridge. The sky above was a dusty red, almost as if the sun itself had been scorched by the unforgiving sandstorms that swept across the landscape. Her breaths came in shallow, controlled bursts, the dry air stinging her lungs. The twin suns, harsh and relentless, cast long shadows across the craggy terrain. And there, in the distance, lay her target: an Imperial outpost, rising from the desert like an obsidian spike.

The Empire had chosen this remote world for its secrecy, believing no one would dare challenge them in the wastelands of Threxos IV. But Ami Gez was no ordinary rebel. She had lived through horrors that had broken lesser beings—starved, hunted, and betrayed by those she had once trusted. Her resolve was forged in the fires of despair, and she was determined to see the Empire pay for every life it had extinguished.

She wiped the sweat from her brow, her fingers brushing against the edge of the scar that ran down her face, a memento from a past battle. Ami knew this world well—its dunes, its hidden caverns, the ways in which the heat could drive a person mad if they weren’t careful. But something was different today. The air was thicker than usual, the shadows on the ground seemed to stretch and warp unnaturally, and a faint, unsettling hum vibrated through the rocks beneath her.

Her eyes narrowed as she surveyed the Imperial outpost below. It was heavily guarded, stormtroopers patrolling the perimeter in neat, emotionless formations. But that wasn’t what troubled her. There was something else—a presence she couldn’t quite put her finger on. A darkness that clung to the edges of her vision, as if the planet itself was watching her.

Ami’s hand tightened around the grip of her blaster, her muscles tensing with the anticipation of the fight ahead. She had seen things in this galaxy, things that would drive most people to madness, but this... this felt different. She was no stranger to war, but the sensation creeping up her spine wasn’t fear—it was something far more primal. An ancient dread that whispered from the deep corners of the universe.

She pushed the feeling aside. There was no room for hesitation.

With a swift motion, Ami adjusted the worn cloak around her shoulders and descended the ridge, moving with the fluid grace of someone who had spent years navigating hostile environments. Every step was calculated, her boots kicking up small plumes of red sand as she approached the outpost. The hum in the air grew louder, almost like the planet itself was vibrating beneath her feet, but she ignored it. She had to focus. This was the last major stronghold in this region, and if she could sabotage the outpost, it would cripple the Empire’s operations on Threxos IV.

As she drew closer, she spotted a narrow opening in the side of the outpost—a maintenance entrance, likely overlooked by the stormtroopers who focused on the main gates. Ami slipped into the shadows, her movements precise and deliberate. The hum in the air seemed to grow louder as she neared the base, a low, pulsating rhythm that made her teeth vibrate.

Suddenly, a shadow darted in the corner of her vision. Ami froze, pressing her back against the cold metal wall of the outpost. Her heart pounded in her chest as she scanned the area. There was nothing there. Just the wind kicking up the sand, or perhaps a trick of the light. But still, the sense of unease clung to her, gnawing at the edges of her mind.

She exhaled slowly and pushed forward, slipping into the maintenance corridor. The interior of the base was a stark contrast to the burning wasteland outside. The walls were sleek, metallic, and cold, the sterile lighting casting long, clinical shadows that made everything feel just a little too quiet. Too still.

Ami crept through the dimly lit hallway, her blaster held tightly in her hand. She was close now—close to the command center where she could upload the virus that would disrupt the outpost’s communications. But as she approached the heart of the base, that unsettling hum grew louder. It was no longer just a vibration; it was a whisper. Faint, indecipherable voices seemed to echo through the walls, as though something ancient and malevolent had been awakened beneath the sands.

Her instincts screamed at her to turn back, but she pressed on, her determination outweighing the fear gnawing at her soul. This was what she h
