Beautiful trees lined the outskirts of a small town, their large branches casting eerie shadows under the dim light of the crescent moon. Deep in the realm of the King of Fighters, anticipation rippled through the air, heavy as fog creeping through the landscape. Amidst the unsettling quiet that enveloped the surroundings, the figure of Mai Shiranui emerged, her flowing red dress a stark contrast to the shadowy environment. A smile played on her lips, but her gaze held a tempest of emotions—determination clawed at her heart, laced with an unease she couldn’t quite shake off.

Mai, a skilled fighter known for her agility and mesmerizing movements, had faced countless opponents. Yet, whispers of an alien entity had reached her ears—an otherworldly warrior whose very presence threatened the fabric of Earth itself. The alien, calling itself Azael, was said to be a harbinger of destruction, challenging Earth’s mightiest fighters and debasing them in horrifying ways. Legends recounted how Azael consumed the very essence of those defeated, feeding off their prowess and crumbling their spirits into dust. Loath to witness such destruction, Mai felt a fire ignite within her—a burning resolve to confront this looming threat before it could unleash chaos upon her beloved planet.

As she ventured deeper into the woods, the air thickened, filled with an almost palpable tension. The rustle of leaves became amplifying whispers, cautioning her to turn back. But Mai pressed on, propelled not just by her fighting spirit, but by the desire to protect those she loved. The thought of her friends and allies, the fighters who stood shoulder to shoulder with her

in countless battles, spurred her forward. She had trained endlessly, refining her skills, yet this felt different. Azael’s very name settled in her stomach like a weight, a cold reminder of the challenge that lay before her.

The path led her to the heart of the forest, where the trees parted, revealing a clearing illuminated by a ghostly glow. In the center stood Azael, a figure wreathed in shadows, his form twisting and contorting, cloaked in shifting colors that defied the eye. His presence was unsettling, radiating a dark energy that deepened the fear in Mai’s heart. She felt as if the very air crackled with malevolence, a vile force that threatened to sink into her skin and burrow deep into her soul.

"Foolish human," Azael’s voice resonated through the clearing, smooth but laced with a chilling echo. "You dare to enter my domain and challenge me? You and the likes of your kind will be reduced to nothing but echoes of their former selves."

"Hiding behind threats won't win you this fight," Mai countered, striving for confidence despite the quaking of her heart. Her body coiled, ready to spring into action as she assessed Azael’s form, searching for weaknesses masked by the flickering shadows. "I've faced demons, monsters, and the fiercest warriors. Your threats won't deter me."

Azael laughed, a hollow sound that reverberated through the trees. "You possess spirit, I grant you that. But spirit alone will not save you when faced with true power.” His body rippled, suggesting forms not of this world, twisting shapes that flickered in and out of reality. "I’ve drained the spirits of great fighters. You will be no different."

With a swiftness blossoming from her training, Mai launched herself forward, the fabric of her dress snapping against the wind as she approached Azael. Every movement was executed with precision, showcasing the mastery she had honed through years of relentless combat. In her hands, the deadly fan became an extension of her will, slicing gracefully through the air. Yet, as she struck, Azael twisted away effortlessly, his form swirling, eluding her grasp. It was not just agility; it was an impossibility—a glimpse of something beyond the realm of understanding.

A feeling of dread washed over her when she recognized that Azael wasn’t merely strong; he seemed to anticipate her every move. As if the shadows themselves whispered secrets only he could hear. With every fend off he delivered, Mai felt as though she was fighting through a fog; her senses dulled, her attacks missing their mark, each fan swipe dissipating into the abyss.

"Such a tempting display of grace." Azael’s eyes burned with an unsettling light, watching her every misstep with perverse delight. "Yet, it is nothing but a dance leading to your demise." He struck with a flick of his wrist, sending a wave of dark energy spira
