Neural Nectar: Judy's Virtual Mirage by Jade Gretz

The flickering neon glow of Night City reflected off Judy Alvarez's chrome visor, casting long, distorted shadows across her face. Rain, laced with the metallic tang of pollution, lashed against her reinforced jacket as she raced through the labyrinthine alleyways of Watson. Her cybernetic eye, enhanced with advanced optics, scanned the environment with frantic urgency.

She wasn't searching for braindance clients or ripperdocs with shady wares this night. Judy was chasing a ghost – a temporal anomaly that had manifested in the heart of Night City, a distortion in the fabric of time itself. It was a chilling anomaly she'd first glimpsed weeks ago, a fleeting flicker on a discarded Braindance chip – a woman, eerily familiar, pleading for help from a desolate wasteland devoid of Night City's signature neon chaos.

Tonight, the anomaly had intensified. Time seemed to stutter around Judy, seconds stretching and contracting in an unnerving dance. Buildings flickered in and out of existence, replaced by glimpses of the desolate wasteland from the Braindance. The world was unraveling at the seams, and Judy, a skilled Braindance technician with a knack for the bizarre, was the only one who seemed to notice.

The anomaly's epicenter lay within Lizzie's Bar, a seedy establishment frequented by ex-scavengers and petty criminals. Judy pushed through the swinging doors, the stench of stale beer and desperation thick in the air. The bar's usual patrons weren't present, replaced by a handful of dazed individuals, oblivious to the temporal anomalies warping reality around them.

In the center of the bar stood a lone figure, a woman with fiery red hair framing a face etched with despair. It was the woman from the Braindance – Evelyn Parker, Judy's former flame, presumed dead after a botched heist. The sight sent a jolt of conflicting emotions through Judy – grief, confusion, and a flicker of anger.

"Evelyn?" Judy's voice was strained, barely audible above the distorted hum of the malfunctioning jukebox.

Evelyn turned, her eyes widening in shock. Recognition flickered across her face, then morphed into an expression of terror.

"Judy! You can see me? You have to help me!" Her voice echoed, distorted by the temporal anomaly, as if arriving from a distant past or a twisted future.

Judy rushed towards Evelyn, her cybernetic arm extended. But as she reached out, Evelyn dissolved into a shimmering mirage, her voice fading into a haunting whisper: "We're stuck, Judy. Trapped between times. Please…"

Panic clawed at Judy's throat. She wasn't hallucinating; this was real. Evelyn, or an echo of her, was a victim of this temporal anomaly. But how? Why? And what did she mean by "stuck"?

Suddenly, a figure materialized beside her – Johnny Silverhand, the legendary rockerboy turned digital ghost who haunted V's cybernetic head. He appeared as a distorted projection, his cybernetic arm crackling with a ghostly energy.

"So this is the mess you've gotten yourself into, dollface," Johnny drawled, his voice laced with a sardonic amusement. "Looks like you've stumbled onto something bigger than a broken Braindance."

Judy scowled at him. "Enlighten me, Johnny. What's going on here?"

"You're messing with time, Alvarez," he said, his voice turning serious. "This ain't some faulty Braindance chip. This is a rift, a tear in the fabric of reality. And that woman, your little flame, she's caught in the crossfire."

Johnny explained in his usual cryptic manner about a clandestine research facility rumored to be hidden beneath Night City. A facility allegedly experimenting with advanced temporal technology, a technology capable of bending time itself. The anomaly, he believed, was a consequence of their reckless experiments.

The revelation sent a shiver down Judy's spine. Corporate greed and Night City's ruthless pursuit of technological advancement rarely ended well. And with time itself at stake, the stakes couldn't be higher.

"So what do we do?" Judy asked, her voice steeled with a newfound resolve. "We can't just leave Evelyn trapped in that… that limbo."

Johnny shrugged, his spectral form flickering faintly. "You're on your own, dollface. This ain't my rodeo. But if you're looking for answers, you better start at that research facility."

Following a trail of rumors and cryptic messages, Judy navigated Night City's underbelly. She hacked into corporate databases, bartered information with shady hackers, and dodged the
