Aayla Secura's Lightsaber Ballet by Jade Gretz

Aayla Secura, cloaked in the shadows cast by a deactivated probe droid, glided silently through the sterile corridors of the Imperial Data Center on Ruusan. The air, devoid of even the comforting hum of ventilation, hung heavy with the stench of stale data chips and an undercurrent of something else, something metallic and ancient.

Aayla, disguised in stolen Imperial officer's garb, navigated the labyrinthine complex with practiced ease. Her fingers brushed against the cold metal of the walls, her senses attuned to the faint hum of distant power generators. This data center, nestled deep beneath the verdant surface of Ruusan, housed the Empire's most classified information, a treasure trove of intelligence vital to the Rebellion's survival.

Her mission was simple: locate and extract data on the Empire's latest troop movements, specifically any information pertaining to Darth Vader and his relentless pursuit of the Rebellion. But as she delved deeper into the facility, a growing unease gnawed at her. The silence, usually a welcome companion in infiltration missions, seemed oppressive here, broken only by the occasional flicker of dying lights on forgotten consoles.

Reaching a restricted access terminal, Aayla expertly overrode the security protocols with a series of deft hand gestures, the Force flowing through her like a cool blue current. Her heart pounded in her chest, echoing in the deafening silence, as the terminal whirred to life. However, a flicker of crimson replaced the expected blue access screen, followed by a distorted image that sent shivers down her spine.

It wasn't a map or a schematic; it was a writhing mass of red and black, a pulsating entity with countless eyes that seemed to bore into Aayla's soul. A wave of nausea washed over her, an unnatural coldness emanating from the screen. Before she could react, the image pulsed, tendrils of red light reaching out from the screen, wrapping around her arm like barbed wire.

Aayla gasped, the Force screaming in protest. Her lightsaber ignited instinctively, a blue beacon in the oppressive darkness. But the red tendrils were impervious to lightsaber energy, sinking deeper into her flesh. A wave of agonizing pain ripped through her, draining her strength, her vision blurring.

Panic turned to a cold resolve. This was no ordinary data center. The Empire, with its penchant for forbidden knowledge, had stumbled upon something far more sinister, something ancient and malevolent.

With a Herculean effort, Aayla channeled the Force, pushing back against the tendrils with a raw blue energy. The effort was excruciating, but slowly, inch by painful inch, the red tendrils receded back into the screen. The image flickered, the eyes turning a malevolent yellow before the screen went dark.

Aayla collapsed onto the cold floor, sweat soaking her borrowed uniform. Her arm, throbbing with a dull ache, bore the mark of the encounter, a faint red welt where the tendrils had pierced her skin. Fear, cold and primal, coiled in her stomach. What had she awakened within this sterile data center?

Pushing past the pain and the lingering fear, Aayla pressed on with her mission. The data on the latest troop movements was critical, but now, there was another, more pressing issue. Whatever resided within the data center, it was a threat the Rebellion couldn't ignore.

The terminal, seemingly appeased by Aayla's defiance, responded to her queries. Data streams flooded her mind, maps outlining troop deployments and schematics of new Star Destroyers. But her focus remained divided, her mind replaying the chilling image that lurked within the system.

Finally, she found what she was looking for – a coded message detailing a potential Vader sighting on the remote Outer Rim world of Xhoxis IV. It was a lead, a glimmer of hope amidst the encroaching darkness. Yet, Aayla couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding. Something about Xhoxis IV resonated within her, a chilling echo in the Force.

Securing the data chip, Aayla deactivated the terminal and slipped back into the shadows. The silence seemed less oppressive now, the hum of distant generators a comforting constant. However, the memory of the red entity, its hungry eyes boring into her soul, lingered.

As Aayla navigated the labyrinthine corridors, a sense of urgency propelled her. The Rebellion needed the Intel, but she also needed to warn them about the horror she had unearthed within the data center. This wasn't just about Darth Vader a
