Rogue's Irresistible Aura by Jade Gretz

Rogue clutched her head, a symphony of whispers thrumming behind her emerald eyes. It wasn't just the usual cacophony of mutant minds she absorbed with a touch, this was different. Agony and desperation crackled through her consciousness, whispers morphing into faces, faces she'd absorbed, their essence trapped within her ever since.

It had started subtly. Flickers of memories during combat, a phantom limb brushing against her cheek, laughter bubbling up from nowhere, morphing into choked sobs. Now, they were a tangible presence, spectral figures clinging to the edges of her mind, their spectral fingers leaving icy trails on her soul.

The first to fully manifest was Emma Frost, her regal form shimmering like diamond dust, eyes blazing with icy contempt. "Release me, Rogue," she hissed, her voice tinged with the chilling silence of the grave. "This purgatory is unbearable."

Rogue stumbled back, fear curdling in her gut. "I...I can't, Emma. You're part of me now."

Emma's spectral hand snapped out, grabbing Rogue's throat, the touch leaving a burning chill. "Don't speak of 'part.' We are tethered, our lives stolen, condemned to relive our deaths every moment you touch another."

Panic choked Rogue. This wasn't the Emma she knew, the cunning telepath who'd mentored and manipulated, this was a tormented wraith, her once sharp wit twisted into jagged ice.

One by one, the others emerged. Colossus, his granite form rippling with phantom pain, whispered of being crushed under falling debris, forever trapped in the moment of his sacrifice. Bobby Drake, his spectral form a chilling mist, cried out from the icy depths of space, where he'd frozen to survive. Kitty Pryde, her phasing gone haywire, flickered in and out of existence, screaming of being lost in another dimension, alone and unseen.

Their pleas clawed at her sanity, a chorus of the damned echoing in her skull. Sleep became a nightmare, her dreams haunted by their spectral faces. Even waking moments were plagued by their touch, their whispers chilling her from within.

Desperate, Rogue sought Professor Xavier. His wheelchair rolled silently down the deserted corridors of the X-Mansion, his telepathic brow furrowed in concern. "Rogue," he said, his voice laced with sorrow, "what you're experiencing is an unforeseen consequence of your power. Their consciousnesses, unable to fully fade, cling to yours, trapped in a limbo."

"There has to be a way to release them," Rogue pleaded, her voice raw. "This is torture, for them and for me."

Xavier sighed, the weight of countless mutant tragedies etched on his face. "There is no precedent, Rogue. But perhaps...perhaps if you can somehow connect with their deepest desires, their unfinished business, their peace might lie in fulfilling them."

Rogue's hope flickered, a fragile flame in the howling storm of her fear. She delved deeper into the spectral tapestry of their souls, sifting through the torment to find the embers of their desires. Colossus yearned for a final act of strength, to protect those he loved one last time. Bobby dreamed of a final snowball fight, a burst of childish joy against the cosmic cold. Kitty longed to touch her loved ones, to feel the warmth of human connection after so long adrift.

Rogue set about fulfilling their wishes. She challenged Juggernaut, her borrowed strength echoing Colossus' final stand. She blasted Sentinel drones with playful ice blasts, mimicking Bobby's mischievous grin. She phased through walls, delivering messages of love from unseen realms, Kitty's spectral hand clutching hers in fleeting gratitude.

With each fulfilled wish, the spectral figures faded, their whispers losing their edge of desperation. Colossus crumbled into shimmering dust, a smile of peace gracing his spectral face. Bobby's mist dispersed, leaving behind a single sparkling snowflake, a frozen tear. Kitty flickered out, a whisper of "thank you" echoing in the silence.

Emma remained. Her icy eyes softened, a flicker of her old wit glinting through the torment. "You did well, Rogue," she said, her voice losing its spectral chill. "Though a part of them remains within you, their peace is earned. And perhaps, in time, even I..."

Her form shimmered, then fractured, dissolving into a swirl of diamond dust. A single diamond pendant floated in the air, landing softly in Rogue's outstretched palm. It held a faint echo of Emma's telepathic touch, a whisper of gratitude and… acceptance.

Rogue stood alone, the burden lighter, but not gone. The echoes of their souls still resonated
