Black Cat: Shadow Siren ANIMATION
The Silver Whisper in the Under-Dark
Felicia Hardy had always trusted the night. It wrapped itself around her like velvet, brushed her shoulders like an old confidant, and hid her intentions in its soft, indulgent dark. But the night above the city was one thing—lush, breathable, intoxicating in its neon glow.
The night beneath it was another creature entirely.
And tonight, it breathed.
She dropped through the service grate with the kind of grace that made the fall look like a seduction and the landing like a promise. Her boots touched the damp concrete without a whisper. The air was humid with rot and metallic with old blood—unmistakable.
“Lovely,” she murmured, scrunching her nose. “My favorite perfume: Eau de Sewer Catastrophe.”
From the shadows behind her, a voice crackled over the comm clipped to her collar. “Felicia, if you’re trying to make me jealous, it’s working. I thought you only saved the glamorous spots for our dates.”
Felicia smiled despite the stench. “Relax, Ace. You’re still my favorite. But this… thing killing people down here doesn’t seem concerned about scheduling around our quality time.”
“Describe the scene.”
“I’d rather not. You might want dinner later.”
“You underestimate my constitution.”
“You overestimate my restraint.”
The banter warmed her, but it didn’t soften the chill pressing against her spine. Something was wrong—wrong in the way that made her pulse accelerate and her instincts sharpen. Felicia Hardy wasn’t a stranger to danger, but this was a different flavor. The air trembled faintly, like the subterranean tunnels were holding their breath.
She crouched and dipped her gloved fingers into a strange smear across the stone. Viscous. Greenish, but iridescent, like oil catching streetlight.
“Ace,” she whispered, “the residue is fresh.”
“How fresh?”
“If it were any fresher, it’d ask me out to dinner.”
“Would it have a chance?”
Felicia smirked. “Not even remotely.”
Something dripped behind her.
She spun.
Nothing.
Just a long corridor where the pipes overhead clenched like the ribs of a dead beast. The water along the floor was still, too still, as if it feared rippling.
She stood slowly, letting her breath ease out, and began moving forward, each step measured and quiet. Her voice lowered. “I’m going off comm for a bit. Something’s… not right.”
“Felicia—”
But she clicked the channel closed.
Silence wrapped around her like wet cloth.
It found her before she found it.
At first, she sensed it rather than saw it—the subtle shift of air behind her, the faint scrape of something enormous brushing concrete, the low, tremorous exhale that rolled down the corridor like a passing storm.
She turned.
And her breath hitched.
The creature stood half-shrouded in the dark, but even that was too much. It towered, towering in the way a nightmare did: too tall, too wide, wrong by geometry alone. Its skin—a stretching, folding mosaic of mutated tissue—glistened like molten tar. Where its eyes should have been, luminous slits pulsed with an eerie gold.
Felicia swallowed. “You’re… new.”
The creature stepped forward, and its head tilted. It was studying her.
Most people would have fled.
Felicia lifted her chin.
“Look,” she said, her tone soft, coaxing, threaded with just enough charm to make predators hesitate, “as lovely and imposing as you are, we didn’t exactly plan this rendezvous. I usually like at least a dinner invitation before someone drools over me.”
A long, wet growl seeped out of its lungs.
“Or after,” she corrected.
The creature moved faster than logic allowed. It lunged, and Felicia threw herself sideways, rolling to avoid claws the size of carving knives. She sprang up, flipped backward, and landed on a pipe that hissed weakly beneath her weight.
Its claws struck where she had been a heartbeat earlier, shattering stone.
“Easy, handsome! I bruise beautifully but heal terribly!”
