Cerberus Siren: Miranda's Cosmic Charm by Jade Gretz

Miranda Lawson surveyed the desolate Prothean ruin with a practiced eye. The scorching sun beat down on the cracked stone, the wind whispering secrets through wind-carved glyphs. This was a forgotten corner of the Elara system, an archaeological dig commissioned by Cerberus with the usual veil of secrecy. Miranda, Cerberus' ruthless operative, was here on a different mission.

Whispers of a Prothean beacon, an artifact rumored to unlock lost memories, had reached her ears. Memories Miranda desperately craved. Memories of her childhood, a blank slate in her otherwise meticulously documented life. The Illusive Man, Cerberus' enigmatic leader, had promised answers, but Miranda suspected his motives were as opaque as the Prothean relic itself.

She navigated the maze-like ruins, her boots crunching on ancient dust. Reaching a cavernous chamber, she found it. The beacon, housed within a deactivated stasis field, pulsed with an ethereal blue light. It resembled a crystal skull, its smooth surface etched with intricate symbols that hummed with an energy she couldn't quite place.

Curiosity, a rare visitor in Miranda's psyche, battled with her ingrained skepticism. Yet, the promise of answers was too strong to ignore. With a gloved hand, she reached out and touched the beacon.

A jolt of energy surged through her, an icy cold spreading from her fingertips to her core. Images flooded her mind, vivid and horrifying. They weren't memories; they were visions. A vast, swirling nebula, pulsating with an unnatural light. Monolithic structures of unknown origin, their sleek obsidian surfaces reflecting a thousand stars. And then… beings. Ethereal creatures of pure energy, radiating a malevolent intelligence.

Miranda gasped, ripped back from the visions as abruptly as they had begun. Dizziness washed over her, the cavern walls shimmering in the flickering sunlight. The visions were terrifying, yet they felt… familiar. Like echoes from a forgotten dream.

Panic clawed at her throat. What had she unleashed? Why were these visions resonating within her? A wave of nausea hit her, and she stumbled back, crashing against a crumbling pillar.

A voice, cold and disembodied, echoed through the chamber. It didn't have a physical form, yet it resonated with a chilling clarity within her mind. "Welcome, Sleeper. We have awaited your awakening."

Miranda spun around, her Cerberus pistol spitting fire into the empty air. The shots echoed and died within the cavern, but the voice remained. "Violence is futile, child. You cannot fight what lies within."

Terror choked her voice. "Who are you? What do you want?"

"We are the Architects," the voice echoed. "We have woven your destiny for millennia. And now, the time has come for you to fulfill your role."

The crystal skull pulsed brighter, bathing the chamber in an eerie blue glow. Miranda's vision blurred, the cavern walls shimmering and distorting. The air crackled with an unnerving energy, a dark tendril reaching out from the beacon towards her.

Instinct screamed at her to run. But a morbid curiosity, a desire to understand these visions, held her rooted to the spot. The tendril snaked closer, and as it touched her forehead, a searing pain ripped through her mind.

More visions assaulted her senses. This time, she saw a sterile laboratory, gleaming chrome walls reflecting the flickering images on a holographic display. A woman with familiar Cerberus armor, her face obscured by shadow, looked down at a newborn baby wrapped in a white blanket. The baby's eyes, a startling shade of blue, met Miranda's own.

The image flickered, the woman disappearing. Then, the Illusive Man, a cruel smile twisting his lips, stood over the crib. His voice, dripping with a sinister joy, echoed in Miranda's mind. "Project Lazarus lives. The perfect soldier, the perfect weapon."

The final image was the most horrifying. Miranda, encased in a stasis pod, wires snaking into her body. Her eyes, once vibrant blue, were now devoid of color, blank slates waiting to be rewritten.

The visions ended abruptly, leaving Miranda reeling. The truth, more horrifying than anything she could have imagined, crashed down upon her. She wasn't just a Cerberus creation; she was a descendant of these Architects, somehow manipulated from birth. A weapon built by Cerberus to fulfill their own twisted agenda.

Tears streamed down her face, hot against the cold Cerberus armor. The Illusive Man had lied, using her as a paw
