Glowing Supergirl: Defender of Hope by Jade Gretz

Supergirl, her crimson cape billowing in the vacuum of space, squinted at the holographic distress signal. It crackled and sputtered across her visor, a garbled plea for help emanating from an uncharted sector beyond known space. Curiosity, a constant companion in her adventures across the galaxy, warred with a flicker of apprehension. This sector was uncharted for a reason – whispers of lost civilizations and unimaginable dangers were the only whispers that ever reached Kryptonian ears.

Still, a distress signal was a distress signal. Leaving a trail of blue light across the cosmic canvas, Supergirl adjusted her course, the desolate beauty of unexplored space filling her with a unique blend of awe and trepidation.

Finally, after hours of interstellar travel, a hulking silhouette materialized on the horizon. It was a spacecraft, vast and imposing, its once gleaming metallic hull now scarred and riddled with craters. An unsettling silence hung around it, a stillness that sent shivers down her spine despite the absence of physical cold.

Hovering cautiously near the docking bay, Supergirl scanned the ship with her x-ray vision. The interior was dark, devoid of any sign of life. Yet, the persistent distress signal continued to emanate from within. With a deep breath, she activated her heat vision, carefully cutting through the rusted metal hull.

The air inside was stale and thick with the smell of decay. As her eyes adjusted to the gloom, Supergirl found herself staring down a deserted corridor. Medical pods lined the walls, their glass fronts now opaque with age. Each pod had a single occupant – skeletal figures curled in fetal positions, their faces contorted in silent screams.

Supergirl felt a pang of unease. This wasn't a rescue mission; it was a tomb. But the distress signal… why was it still playing? Following the faint sound, she navigated the labyrinthine corridors, her footsteps echoing eerily in the sterile silence.

The source led her to a small control room. A single figure slumped over the console, a skeletal hand clutching a microphone. Supergirl placed a hand on the cold flesh, sadness washing over her. This must have been the person who sent the distress signal, clinging to hope even as they succumbed to whatever fate befell the crew.

As Supergirl reached for the microphone, the room pulsed with a sickly green light. The corpse twitched, then convulsed with a sickening snap. Its vacant eyes snapped open, glowing with the same unnatural green light. What was once a human was now a grotesque mockery of life, its limbs twisting and contorting in ways that should be impossible.

Supergirl recoiled in horror. The decayed flesh stretched and split, revealing writhing tendrils of a strange, bioluminescent material. It pulsed and pulsed, spreading across the corpse, consuming it whole. When it finished, what stood before Supergirl was no longer human. It was a creature of pure green light, its form shifting and morphing in a grotesque parody of life.

The creature screeched, a sound that defied description, a sonic assault on her senses. Supergirl, momentarily stunned, felt a searing pain rip through her arm. The creature, with surprising speed, had lashed out with a whip-like tendril, tearing through her Kryptonian suit and leaving a burning welt on her skin.

Anger surged through Supergirl, momentarily eclipsing the creeping fear. This wasn't a mindless monster; it was intelligent, predatory. With a roar of defiance, she unleashed her heat vision, a blazing torrent of energy incinerating the creature.

But to her horror, the creature didn't die. It shrieked again, the sound tearing through the corridors, and then it began to split. From the single entity, two smaller, equally grotesque creatures emerged, pulsating with the same unnatural green light.

Supergirl gritted her teeth. One creature was bad enough, but two? Rage simmered in her veins, but a voice in the back of her head screamed caution. Brute force wasn't working. These things were different, something she'd never encountered before.

She needed a plan. Scanning the control room, her eyes fell on a data terminal, its screen flickering back to life with a jolt of residual energy. It held a ship's log, a desperate account of the crew encountering a strange, bioluminescent entity on a seemingly uncharted planet.

The log spoke of the entity attaching itself to a crewmember, consuming them from the inside out. It also revealed that the entity seem
