Catwoman: Moonlit Mischief Maker by Jade Gretz

The Gotham skyline, a jagged silhouette against the inky sky, was a familiar playground to Selina Kyle, the Catwoman. Tonight, however, her usual feline grace was tinged with a prickling unease. She was tailing the Falcones – not the notorious Carmine, he'd been long gone, but his distant nephew, Alberto, who'd inherited a fraction of the family's criminal empire and all of its depravity.

Tonight's target – a derelict Arkham Asylum annex rumored to be the hub of Alberto's latest venture: human augmentation. Whispers of grotesque mutations and screams that echoed through the boarded-up windows fueled Selina's curiosity, as much as her need to dismantle the scumbag's operations.

Crouched on a gargoyle, she watched Alberto and his burly goons unload crates from a rusted van, their faces contorted in a mixture of fear and excitement. The metallic clangs echoed eerily in the abandoned street, and a sudden gust of wind sent a shiver down Selina's spine – it wasn't just the cold.

Suddenly, a crate burst open, spewing a dark, viscous liquid onto the cobblestones. A guttural shriek tore through the night, a sound that wasn't human. Selina's eyes narrowed – this wasn't just technology Alberto was playing with, something far darker was at work.

Her keen senses picked up another sound – a guttural growl, low and primal. A hulking figure lumbered out of the shadows, dripping with the black liquid that sizzled where it touched the pavement. It wasn't human anymore. Muscle rippled beneath taut, glistening skin, limbs elongated and ending in razor-sharp claws. Moonlight glinted off eyes devoid of irises, glowing an unnatural red.

Panic seized the Falcone thugs. One let out a strangled cry and bolted down the street, only to be overtaken in a heartbeat. He disappeared into the creature's maw with a sickening crunch. The others huddled together, whimpering, their bravado shattered.

This wasn't a fight Selina had signed up for. But her sense of justice, honed over years of defying Gotham's elite, wouldn't let her walk away. With a feline hiss, she launched herself from the gargoyle, a blur of black against the night.

The creature's head snapped towards her, its red eyes locking onto hers. A feral roar erupted from its throat, and it charged. Selina, ever agile, twisted mid-air, landing gracefully on a rusted fire escape. The creature slammed into the opposite wall, leaving a crater of debris.

Using the labyrinthine fire escapes as her playground, Selina rained down a flurry of kicks and punches. Each hit landed with a sickening thud, but the creature seemed impervious to pain. It lunged again, and Selina barely dodged, her whip snaking out, wrapping around one of its monstrous arms.

With a grunt, she yanked hard, sending the creature crashing back onto the street. But she knew it wouldn't be enough. This monstrosity was driven by a primal hunger, and she was just an obstacle in its path.

Panic started to gnaw at the edges of her resolve. What had Alberto unleashed here? As if mirroring her thoughts, a grating voice echoed through the decaying halls of the asylum.

"Ah, Selina Kyle. Always a pleasure to see you interested in my projects."

Alberto stepped out from the shadows, a manic grin on his face. He wore a grotesque contraption strapped to his arm, a syringe filled with the same black liquid pulsating behind a glass tube.

"This, my dear," he gestured towards the creature, "is the next step in human evolution. Strength beyond imagination. Power beyond control."

Selina felt a cold dread grip her heart. Alberto wasn't just interested in augmentation; he was playing with something far darker, something that defied the boundaries between science and horror.

The creature roared again, its gaze shifting between Alberto and Selina. Hunger seemed to war with confusion in its red eyes. It was clear – Alberto hadn't fully controlled his creation.

This wasn't just about stopping a thug anymore. This was about containing a nightmare.

An idea sparked in Selina's mind, a risky but desperate plan. She needed an escape, a distraction. Her eyes darted around the decaying structure and landed on a dangling electrical wire, frayed and sparking.

"Get her!" Alberto screamed, oblivious to Selina's plans.

The creature charged, and Selina, instead of dodging, let out a taunt. "You really think he cares about you? He just wants to use you, monster!"

The creature hesitated, a flicker of something
