Aayla Secura: Swift Serenity ANIMATION

The Amber Teeth of Vvun

The rain on the moon of Vvun did not fall so much as it congealed, a suspended slurry of amber pollen and grit that tasted of ancient ozone and rusted iron. It coated the flaking stone of the Jedi outpost, a structure that had once been a beacon of High Republic elegance but was now merely a skeletal finger pointing accusingly at a bruised, purple sky. Inside the atrium, where the ceiling had long ago surrendered to the elements, Aayla Secura stood with her back to a pillar of cracked marble. Her blue skin was slick with the damp, the sweat of a three-hour marathon against the shadows. Her lekku twitched, sensing the minute vibrations in the air—the rhythmic, wet scraping of claws against moss-slicked stone.

“They are remarkably patient for creatures characterized by such singular, mindless hunger,” a voice drifted from the darkness above. Kohl Phrax, a man whose reputation as a disgraced xeno-archaeologist was only eclipsed by his talent for survival, sat perched on a high, crumbling balustrade. He was polishing a heavy slugthrower pistol with a piece of silk, his eyes hidden behind a pair of cracked amber goggles. “The Nexu of Vvun aren’t like the ones you see in the Geonosian arenas, Master Secura. Those are poodles. These? These have been marinating in the Force-leaks of this tomb for three centuries. They don’t just want your meat. They want your fear. It’s a seasoning to them.”

Aayla didn't look up. Her lightsaber remained unlit, a cold cylinder of electrum and alloy in her hand. “If you spent half as much energy assisting in our defense as you did narrating our demise, Phrax, we might have reached the comm-relay by now.”

Phrax let out a short, dry laugh that sounded like dead leaves skittering across pavement. “And miss the theater? Master Jedi, you are a vision of Twi’lek grace in a charnel house. The way you moved through those three beasts in the lower levels—it was a dance. A seductive invitation to a funeral. If I were twenty years younger and ten times less cynical, I might have proposed. But alas, I am a realist, and you are a monk of a dying order, and we are currently being hunted by something that can unhinge its jaw to swallow a humanoid head whole.”

The atmosphere shifted. Aayla felt it before she heard it—a sudden drop in the ambient pressure, a hollowness in the Force. From the shadows of the vaulted archway opposite her, a pair of glowing, feline eyes blinked. Then another pair directly above them. The Nexu of Vvun were mutated horrors, their four eyes swirling with a sickly yellow luminescence, their spade-tipped tails twitching with a hypnotic, metronomic precision.

“They’re here,” Aayla whispered.

“They’ve been here for twenty minutes,” Phrax replied, his voice dropping to a gravelly silk. “They were just waiting for the wind to change. They like the scent of your adrenaline. It’s the finest vintage in the Outer Rim.”

A flash of sapphire erupted in the gloom. The snap-hiss of Aayla’s lightsaber cut through the heavy air, casting long, dancing shadows that made the ruins seem to breathe. The first Nexu lunged. It didn't roar; it hissed—a sound like steam escaping a pressurized valve. It was a blur of white fur and quills, its oversized mouth a jagged canyon of needle-teeth.

Aayla didn't move until the beast was inches away. She pirouetted, a blur of cobalt and brown leather, her blade carving a glowing arc through the humid air. The Nexu’s head spun off into the darkness, but its body, driven by a post-mortem neurological spasm, slammed into the pillar where she had stood a second before.

“Exquisite,” Phrax remarked, his slugthrower finally barking. A heavy projectile caught a second Nexu mid-leap, the kinetic impact folding the creature in half. “But they brought the family. The extended family. Including the cousins no one talks about.”

Three more of the beasts emerged from the gloom, their movements fluid and terrifyingly silent. They didn't charge. They circled, their claws clicking on the floor in a polyrhythmic beat. Aayla felt the cold tendrils of the dark side clinging to the stones of the outpost. This wasn't just a hunt; it was a ritual. The outpost had been built over a nexus of cold energy, and the Nexu had become its acolytes.

“Phrax, get to the center of the room,” Aayla commanded, her voice steady despite the prickle of dread on her skin. “The Force is… distorted here. It’s pulling at my focus.”

“It’s the seduction of the void, Master Se
