Jack: Biotic Tempest ANIMATION

The Indigo Hemorrhage

The smell of burnt sugar and ionized hydrogen clung to the bulkheads of the Aethelgard Station like a second, more suffocating skin. Jack moved through the corridors not as a soldier, but as a predator sensing a shift in the local physics. Here, deep in the Crags of the Ismar Frontier, Cerberus had built a cathedral to a god they didn’t understand. The lighting didn't flicker; it pulsed in a rhythmic, violet cadence that matched the heavy thrumming behind Jack’s own ribcage. She didn't like the way her tattoos felt. They were itching, the ink under her skin twitching as if the stylized patterns were trying to rearrange themselves into a warning.

“Whatever you’re cooking in here, Lawson’s old buddies really leaned into the ‘creepy as a graveyard’ aesthetic,” Jack muttered, her voice a low rasp that barely carried over the hum of the station’s failing life support. She gripped her shotgun, but the weapon felt like a toy. In a place where the air tasted like a migraine, lead was rarely the answer.

A holographic interface sputtered to life three feet in front of her. It wasn't a standard VI. The projection was jagged, a flickering silhouette of a woman whose head was tilted at an impossible angle. “Subject Zero,” the image croaked, the voice layered with a dozen different pitches. “You have arrived for the harvest. How thoughtful. We were worried the invitation would be lost in the vacuum.”

Jack smirked, though her eyes remained cold and scanning. “I don’t do invitations. I do home invasions. Who am I talking to? The lab rat or the guy holding the clipboard?”

“I am the result of the clipboard’s hubris,” the hologram replied, its image stretching until it touched both walls. “They called me Project Aurelius. They wanted a biotic capable of folding space without a drive core. They wanted a god in a jar. Instead, they got a leak. Do you know what happens when a soul begins to leak, Jack?”

“Usually means I have to mop up the floor,” Jack said, stepping through the hologram. The light felt oily against her skin. “Where is it? The thing that killed the crew? I’m not here for a philosophy lesson. I’m here to make sure whatever Cerberus broke stays broken.”

“It isn’t broken,” the voice whispered, now coming from the vents, the floor, and the very marrow of Jack’s bones. “It is simply... excessive.”

She rounded the corner into the primary research tier. The sight was a masterpiece of biological catastrophe. The central chamber was a sphere of white ceramic, now stained with blooms of indigo light that looked like bruises on the air. In the center, suspended by nothing but sheer gravitational will, was a girl—or what had once been a girl. Her body was translucent, her veins glowing with a terrifying, incandescent blue. She wasn't just using biotics; she was becoming a singularity. Around her, the corpses of the Cerberus scientists weren't just dead; they were integrated. Their bodies had been stretched and woven into the architecture of the room, their limbs elongated into graceful, horrific pillars of bone and calcified light.

It was beautiful in the way a supernova is beautiful right before it erases a solar system.

“Stay back, Jack,” a voice called out. It wasn't the monster. It was a man, huddled in the shadow of a reinforced console. He looked like he’d been dragged through a thresher. His lab coat was scorched, and his eyes were wide with a frantic, hypnotic awe.

“Dr. Aris, I presume?” Jack said, her hand glowing with a restless flare of blue energy. “You the genius who turned the kid into a black hole?”

“She isn't a black hole,” Aris whispered, his voice trembling with a terrifying fervor. “She is the aperture. We didn't just enhance her biotic potential; we removed the threshold. There is no limit to her output. She is dreaming in gravity, Jack. Look at the way she bends the light. It’s not just power. It’s seduction. Don't you feel it? The pull? The desire to stop fighting the weight of the universe and just... fall?”

Jack felt it. A heavy, sweet pressure at the base of her skull. It felt like the moment before a kiss, or the moment before a kill. It was an invitation to surrender the anger that had defined her entire life. The creature—the girl—opened her eyes. They weren't eyes anymore. They were two infinite wells of starlight.

“Jack,” the creature said. The voice was melodic, stripping away Jack’s defenses with a surgical precision. “You have spent your whole life being a weapon for others. Or a shield for you
