Rain lashed against the dilapidated high-rise, the neon glow of New Hong Kong reflecting off the slick streets like a fever dream. Cammy White, her crimson Delta Red uniform clinging to her toned physique, crouched on a crumbling rooftop, night vision goggles cutting through the downpour. Below, the bustling Kowloon market was an anthill of unsuspecting civilians, oblivious to the horrors that lurked in the shadows.
Their intel had been precise – a rogue Bishion syndicate, rumored to be experimenting with a terrifying new bioweapon, was holed up within the crumbling high-rise. Cammy, alongside her trusted Delta Red teammates, Zulu and Echo, had infiltrated the building with surgical precision, their years of combat experience honed to a razor's edge.
But something was off. Zulu, usually a beacon of boisterous confidence, was uncharacteristically quiet. Echo, a master hacker, had reported an unusually high level of encryption on the syndicate's servers. A knot of unease tightened in Cammy's stomach.
They reached the top floor, a cavernous chamber adorned with flickering holographic displays showcasing grotesque mutations. In the center, a hulking figure in a biohazard suit cackled maniacally, surrounded by writhing pods filled with a pulsating green goo.
"Bisho scum!" Zulu roared, charging into the room, his assault rifle spitting fire. Cammy joined the fray, her Delta Killer instinct taking over. The scientist, surprisingly agile for his size, dodged their attacks, his laughter echoing with a chilling undertone.
Suddenly, a searing pain ripped through Cammy's shoulder. Zulu, with a crazed look in his eyes, had turned his weapon on her. Echo, struggling with an unseen digital foe, crumpled to the floor, her eyes flickering with betrayal.
The scientist, amusement replaced with a sly grin, gestured towards Zulu. "My new creation. Prototype B-34, programmed to eliminate Delta Red operatives."
Cammy's world tilted on its axis. Zulu, her comrade, her friend, a traitor? The realization fueled a surge of adrenaline and fury. She lunged at Zulu, her combat training clashing with her disbelief.
They battled across the rooftop, the rain washing away the crimson bloom on Cammy's shoulder. Zulu, enhanced with unnatural speed and strength, countered her every move. But through the haze of betrayal, Cammy saw a flicker of the old Zulu – a flicker of confusion, a fleeting moment of struggle within the manipulated chaos of his eyes.
With a desperate lunge, Cammy disarmed him, the rifle clattering across the wet concrete. They locked eyes, Cammy's burning with anger and a sliver of hope.
"Zulu, fight it!" she snarled, her voice hoarse with emotion.
A flicker of recognition washed over Zulu's face. But before he could respond, the pods ruptured, releasing a swarm of grotesque, oozing creatures. They swarmed over Echo, their acidic touch dissolving her protective gear. Her screams, raw and heart-wrenching, echoed across the rooftop.
A primal rage erupted within Cammy. Zulu, eyes wide with remorse, understood. Together, they fought back against the bio-horrors, a desperate dance of survival. Zulu's enhanced strength, once used against her, now became a weapon against the monstrosities.
But the creatures were relentless, their acidic touch gnawing at their suits. Just as Cammy felt a burning sensation creeping up her leg, a deafening explosion rocked the building. Sunlight, unfiltered by the storm clouds, flooded the rooftop as one of the high-rise's support beams gave way, sending a chunk of the building crashing down below.
Dust settled, the rooftop now precariously perched on the side of the building. The scientist, caught in the crossfire, was nothing but a smear on the broken concrete. The remaining bio-horrors, deprived of their master, dissolved into a pool of green goo.
Cammy, dangling from a broken railing, looked up to see Zulu reaching out a hand, the desperation in his eyes mirroring her own. Without hesitation, she grasped it, his enhanced strength pulling her back onto the precarious rooftop.
They collapsed onto the wet concrete, gasping for breath. The remaining wall offered a view of the city below, a sickening reminder of the potential disaster averted.
A tense silence stretched between them. Finally, Zulu spoke, his voice laced with shame. "The scientist… he…" He trailed off, unable to finish the sentence.
Cammy knelt before him, her eyes filled with
