Title: "Meye Ockis: Into the Void"
The cold, endless expanse of space stretched out before Meye Ockis, a sea of glittering stars pierced only by the occasional shadow of a planet or asteroid field. The blackness seemed to press against the cockpit of her Y-wing like a living thing, suffocating and all-consuming, but Meye had learned to embrace the void. It was part of her now, just as much as the starfighters that hummed with lethal energy around her, each one piloted by a member of her squadron.
The Twi’lek warrior sat poised in the pilot’s seat, her lekku wrapped tightly beneath her flight helmet, blue skin glistening under the faint lights of the control panel. Her sharp amber eyes flicked between the instruments, the star map, and the dark stretch of space that would soon become a war zone. Outside, nothing stirred—only silence, only darkness.
“Squadron, this is Lead,” Meye’s voice crackled through the comms, steady and unshaken. “Check your formations. We’re entering hostile space.”
The voices of her squadron followed, each one sounding calm but with an undercurrent of tension that only those who had flown hundreds of missions together could detect. They were a team forged in battle, having survived countless dogfights, bombing runs, and ambushes. But something about tonight’s mission felt different. There was a chill in the air, something far more sinister than a routine bombing mission against the Empire.
Meye flexed her fingers around the yoke of her Y-wing, her knuckles turning white as she stared ahead. Their target lay hidden in the dark recesses of a planet long thought to be abandoned. The Imperial fleet had resurfaced here, but there were whispers that something else awaited them on the surface, something the Empire itself barely understood.
"Lead, this is Gold Two," the voice of her second-in-command, a Mon Calamari named Berdo, crackled through the comms. "We’re in formation. Looks like we’re the first ones to greet the Empire tonight."
Meye smirked, but the weight of the mission pressed on her mind. She clicked the comm, acknowledging Berdo’s report. “Let’s make sure the welcome’s unforgettable, then.”
The squadron of Y-wings sped through the darkness, the faint hum of their ion engines the only sound in the eerie silence. Meye's mind ran through the mission details again: fly into the heart of the Empire's hidden base, lay waste to their supply lines, and cripple their fleet's capacity to continue their clandestine operations in the sector. But every instinct she had—honed from years of battle and survival—screamed that it wouldn’t be that simple.
As the planet’s silhouette grew in the viewport, Meye felt a slight tremor in her bones. The planet’s surface, barely lit by the distant starlight, looked wrong—unnatural. Massive canyons carved into the surface spread like veins, and as they grew closer, she could see the faint glow of something unnatural pulsing from deep within the cracks. She couldn't shake the feeling that something waited down there, something far older than the Empire and far more dangerous.
“Gold Squadron, prepare for descent,” Meye commanded, her voice hardening. “Bombing coordinates are locked. On my mark, we’ll drop low, and you know the drill—quick in, quick out.”
As her Y-wing began its descent into the planet’s atmosphere, the first blips appeared on her radar. Imperial TIE fighters, emerging from the shadows of the mountains, their solar panels reflecting the faint light of the planet’s surface.
“We’ve got company!” shouted Gold Four.
Meye grimaced. “Stay sharp, squad. Keep the fighters off us while we make our run.”
The battle erupted in a sudden storm of laser fire. Green streaks of energy lanced through the blackness, and Meye pulled her Y-wing into a sharp dive, weaving between the incoming blasts. Her squadron followed suit, the familiar dance of battle commencing as they dodged and returned fire in tight formation.
TIE fighters swarmed them, their high-pitched screeches echoing in the comms, but Gold Squadron was well-versed in Imperial tactics. Meye’s Y-wing rolled sharply as she targeted an approaching TIE, releasing a burst of ion fire. The enemy ship spun out of control, a brief explosion lighting the space around them before fading back into darkness.
“Gold Two, cover me. I’m going in for the drop,” Meye called as she angled her Y-wing toward the surface.
“Copy that, Lead. We’ve got your back.”
