Black Cat: Midnight Mischief by Jade Gretz

Black Cat, clad in her trademark sleek black suit, crouched atop a gargoyle overlooking Gotham's glittering skyline. Rain lashed against her face, mirroring the storm brewing within. Below, a commotion erupted from one of Gotham's more opulent jewelry stores. A figure, clad in a perfect replica of her costume, was emerging from a smashed display case, a fistful of shimmering diamonds clutched in her hand.

Felicity "Black Cat" Hardy's heart hammered against her ribs. There was no mistaking it; that was another Black Cat, her every move a chilling echo of her own. Panic clawed at her throat, a fear more primal than any she'd faced before. Who was this imposter, and what did she want?

Leaping down from the gargoyle, Black Cat landed with a silent grace, her whip coiled tight in her hand. The doppelgänger, a feral gleam in her eyes, spun around, the stolen diamonds glinting like malevolent eyes. But it was her face that sent a shiver down Black Cat's spine.

It was identical to hers, the same emerald green eyes, the same mischievous smirk, yet somehow… wrong. It was a caricature, an exaggerated version of herself, devoid of warmth or humor.

"Well, well," the doppelgänger purred, her voice a distorted echo of Black Cat's own, "Fancy seeing me here, Felicia."

Black Cat's mind raced. This wasn't a prank, not from some two-bit villain. This felt calculated, a deliberate attempt to undermine her. A name flashed through her mind – Zsasz, the sadistic serial killer with a psychotic obsession for symmetry. But how could he have pulled something like this off?

Before she could formulate a response, the doppelgänger lunged. The ensuing fight was a blur of acrobatic maneuvers and stinging whiplashes. It was like fighting a mirror image, each move anticipated, each counter perfectly timed. But there was a difference. The doppelgänger fought with a desperate ferocity, a hunger that chilled Black Cat to the bone.

For a moment, their fight took them to the edge of the roof. The doppelgänger, her eyes gleaming with an unsettling madness, lunged for a final, desperate blow. Black Cat, fueled by a sudden surge of adrenaline, dodged the attack, sending the doppelgänger tumbling over the edge.

Black Cat watched in horror as the figure plummeted towards the pavement below. But the impact never came. As if defying gravity, the doppelgänger righted herself mid-fall, landing on a fire escape with a cat-like grace.

With a final mocking laugh, the doppelgänger vanished into the labyrinthine alleyways below. Black Cat, left trembling on the rain-slicked rooftop, felt a chilling truth settle in her gut. This doppelgänger wasn't just here to steal jewels; she was here to steal her life.

The following days were a nightmare. News reports blazoned images of the "Black Cat" terrorizing Gotham, leaving a trail of robberies and bewildered victims in her wake. Black Cat found herself constantly on the defensive, forced to deny accusations of crimes she didn't commit.

Even her allies – Spider-Man, ever the voice of reason, and White Fox, her loyal confidante – were thrown off guard by the doppelgänger's uncanny resemblance. Black Cat desperately searched for answers, consulting grimoires and mystical texts, all the while feeling like a ghost in her own life.

The turning point came in the form of an invitation, delivered on a silver platter. It was an address in the abandoned Arkham district, a place where the shadows held more secrets than the stars. Inside a derelict building, bathed in flickering candlelight, stood Zsasz, his face twisted in a manic grin.

"Ah, Black Cat," he rasped, his voice dripping with a theatrical flair. "I see you received my invitation. And to think, I found you using only the most basic of magic – a reflection spell gone awry."

Black Cat narrowed her eyes. A reflection spell? Could Zsasz's twisted mind have used a shard of a broken mirror to create the doppelgänger, a warped reflection of her very being?

Zsasz chuckled, seemingly amused by her realization. "Oh, yes. But don't worry, the real fun begins now. Shall we see which Black Cat survives this little game?"

With a cruel gesture, Zsasz snapped his fingers, and the abandoned building transformed. Walls dissolved, revealing a terrifying labyrinth of mirrors, each one reflecting a distorted image of Black Cat. The air crackled with a malevolent energy, the boundaries between reality and illusion blurring.

Black Cat found herself trapped in
