The Metropolis skyline shimmered through Power Girl's heat vision, the familiar cityscape both comforting and strangely distorted. A jarring dissonance vibrated through the air, a high-pitched whine that made her teeth ache. It was Saturday afternoon, a time usually reserved for leisurely brunches with Huntress or relaxing balcony sunbathing. Today, however, was different. Today, Power Girl was trapped.
It had started innocently enough. Brainiac, the ever-present Kryptonian villain, had materialized above Metropolis, his emerald skullship casting an ominous shadow. Power Girl, ever the front line, rocketed towards him, a confident smirk plastered on her face. Their battle raged across the skies, a blur of super-powered punches and crackling energy blasts. Just as she lined up a decisive blow, the whine started.
It pierced through the cacophony of battle, a sharp, insistent sound that burrowed into her skull. Then, the world flickered. One moment she was about to pummel Brainiac, the next, she was hurtling backwards through time.
She landed with a crash on a deserted rooftop, disoriented and confused. Brainiac's ship was gone, the city eerily silent. It didn't take long for her to realize something was terribly wrong. The time was wrong. Billboards advertised events that had already happened. Newsstands displayed yesterday's headlines. Power Girl was trapped in a time loop, reliving the same Saturday afternoon over and over.
At first, she found it amusing. She used her powers to her advantage, preventing petty crimes, indulging in extra slices of cheesecake at her favorite diner, knowing the consequences wouldn't last. But amusement soon turned to frustration. No matter what she did, the loop remained unbroken. Defeat Brainiac earlier? The whine would appear, and she'd find herself back on the deserted rooftop. Stay out of the fight entirely? Same result.
Days, or rather, the same day repeated endlessly, bled into each other. Power Girl's boundless optimism began to crack. The cheer that usually filled her voice felt strained, her confident smile felt forced. Even Superman, called in to investigate the anomaly, emerged baffled. The time loop was unlike anything he had encountered before.
One iteration, Power Girl found a lone survivor of the loop – a scruffy man rambling about the eternal Saturday. He claimed to see glimpses, fragmented visions of what caused the loop. A figure, a shadowy silhouette against a backdrop of swirling time energy. Power Girl listened intently, a glimmer of hope sparking in her eyes. A lead, however tenuous, was better than nothing.
The following loop, she focused on replicating the survivor's fragmented vision. She soared through the skies, searching for the source of the time anomaly. The whine grew louder as she approached a specific point above the Metropolis skyline, the very spot where she had last confronted Brainiac. There, amidst the swirling energy, she saw it – a shadowy figure, its form shifting and pulsating with an unsettling rhythm.
As she charged towards it, the familiar whine blasted through her ears. This time, however, Power Girl was prepared. Focusing her immense strength, she slammed into the swirling energy just before the whine consumed her. The impact was unlike anything she had ever experienced. Time stretched and contorted, colors bleeding into each other. Then, a sudden release.
She found herself floating in a void, a timeless expanse of swirling colors. The shadowy figure materialized before her, its form now solidified – a humanoid creature composed entirely of swirling time energy. A horrifying realization dawned on Power Girl – this wasn't Brainiac's doing. This was a creature of time itself, a temporal anomaly feeding on the city's energy, distorting the very fabric of reality.
The creature spoke, its voice a cacophony of distorted voices, each echoing from a different point in time. "Foolish Kryptonian," it boomed. "You cannot escape the endless Saturday."
Power Girl knew brute force wouldn't work. This creature thrived on the chaos of the time loop. She needed a different approach. Drawing upon her years of experience, she projected an image of Metropolis, not the desolate version trapped in the loop, but the bustling, vibrant city she knew and loved.
"This is the true Metropolis," she declared, her voice ringing with conviction. "A city of hope, resilience, and life. You cannot trap it in your eternal Saturday!"
The creature wavered, its form flick
