Zelda's Elegance: The Light of Hyrule by Jade Gretz

Zelda felt a chill run down her spine as she stepped into the Kokiri Forest. The air was thick with a foul mist that obscured her vision and made her cough. She clutched Link's hand tightly, hoping he could sense her fear and comfort her. Link was silent, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any sign of danger. He had been here before, many years ago, when he was a young boy raised by the Kokiri, the children of the forest. He had left them to embark on a quest to save Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf, and had not returned since. He wondered what had become of his old friends, the ones who had welcomed him as one of their own, despite his lack of a fairy companion.

They walked deeper into the forest, following the path that led to the Great Deku Tree, the guardian spirit of the Kokiri. Zelda remembered the stories Link had told her about the wise and benevolent tree, how he had given Link the spiritual stone of the forest, and how he had sacrificed himself to protect the forest from a curse. She hoped to find some trace of his presence, some sign of life in this desolate place.

But as they approached the clearing where the Great Deku Tree once stood, they saw nothing but a charred and twisted stump, surrounded by a ring of scorched earth. The sight filled them with horror and sadness. Zelda felt tears sting her eyes, and Link clenched his jaw, trying to suppress his anger. Who could have done this? Who could have destroyed such a sacred and ancient being?

They heard a low growl behind them, and turned to see a pair of glowing red eyes in the mist. They recognized the shape of a wolfos, a large and vicious wolf-like creature that roamed the forest. But this wolfos was different. It was larger, darker, and more menacing than any they had ever seen. Its fur was matted with blood and dirt, and its teeth were stained with gore. It snarled at them, ready to attack.

Link drew his sword and shield, and Zelda readied her bow and arrow. They prepared to fight, but before they could make a move, they heard a familiar voice.

"Link! Zelda! Don't hurt him! He's my friend!"

They looked up and saw a small figure emerge from the mist. It was a Kokiri, a child-like being with pointed ears and green clothes. He had blond hair and blue eyes, and a fairy fluttering around his head. He ran towards them, waving his arms.

"Stop! Stop! He won't hurt you! He's just scared! He's been through a lot!"

Link and Zelda lowered their weapons, stunned. They recognized the Kokiri as Saria, Link's childhood friend and the sage of the forest. She had helped Link in his quest, and had given him the ocarina of time, a magical instrument that could control time. She had also awakened as one of the six sages, the ones who had sealed Ganondorf in the sacred realm. She had not aged a day since then, while Link and Zelda had grown into adults.

"Saria?" Link said, incredulously. "Is that really you?"

"Yes, Link, it's me!" Saria said, smiling. "I'm so glad to see you! And you too, Zelda! You're both alive!"

She hugged them both, and then turned to the wolfos.

"This is Wolfy. He's my friend. He's been protecting me from the evil spirits that have taken over the forest. He's not like the other wolfos. He's kind and gentle. He's just scared of strangers. Please don't hurt him."

She petted the wolfos, who calmed down and licked her face. Zelda and Link looked at each other, bewildered.

"Saria, what's going on?" Zelda asked. "What happened to the forest? What happened to the Kokiri?"

Saria's smile faded, and she looked around with a sad expression.

"The forest...the forest is dying. Ever since Ganondorf escaped from the sacred realm, he's been trying to destroy Hyrule. He's been sending his minions to attack the forest, to burn it, to poison it, to corrupt it. He's been trying to kill the Kokiri, to wipe out the last remnants of the forest's power. He's been trying to break the seal of the sages, to unleash his full wrath upon the world."

She shuddered, and continued.

"Some of the Kokiri managed to escape, to hide in other places. Some of them joined the resistance, to fight against Ganondorf. But some of them...some of them stayed. They stayed to defend the forest, to protect the Great Deku Tree, to preserve the forest's spirit. But they were no match for Ganondorf's forces. They were slaughtered, one by one. And some of them...some of them were worse than dead. They were corrupted, twisted, turned into monsters. They
