She-Hulk: Verdant Vanguard ANIMATION

Veins of Jade and Ice

Blood tasted remarkably like oxidized copper, even when supercharged by boundless atomic energy. Jennifer Walters spat a vivid crimson droplet onto the pristine white marble of the grand foyer, watching the fluid sizzle and steam as her unique biology rapidly repaired the minor laceration on her lip. She stood at the center of a brutalist, ultra-luxurious chateau hidden deep within the jagged peaks of the Dolomites. Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass, a blizzard raged, burying the world in freezing obscurity. Inside, the silence was far more dangerous.

She was the She-Hulk. A six-foot-seven marvel of jade musculature, an emerald goddess of impossible strength and striking, unparalleled beauty. Her skin usually radiated a faint, bioluminescent warmth, a testament to the unquenchable gamma fire burning within her veins. Tonight, however, her radiance felt less like a beacon and more like a target painted directly on her back.

"I was informed that you did not bleed, Ms. Walters. They told me you were perfectly indestructible."

The voice was a velvet ribbon drawn across a rusted blade. Jennifer pivoted, her muscles coiled like heavy steel springs. From the shadows of the mezzanine descended Julian Vane. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, his features striking and aristocratic, though his eyes were completely void of light. They were the eyes of a deep-sea predator, ancient and accustomed to the crushing dark.

"I only bleed when I bite my own tongue trying not to laugh at your security detail," Jennifer said, her voice a rich, commanding purr that echoed off the vaulted concrete ceilings. She offered him a predatory smile, though her analytical lawyer’s mind was already cataloging the exits. "The Sepulchre, right? That’s what you call yourselves. A bit dramatic for a corporate kidnapping, Julian."

Julian paused at the base of the grand staircase. He did not look at her with the typical mixture of fear and awe she usually commanded. Instead, his gaze swept over her towering, magnificent form with an intense, clinical hunger. It was a look of pure, terrifying seduction—not of the flesh, but of the soul. He was admiring a masterpiece he fully intended to dismantle.

"We prefer to think of ourselves as archivists," Julian replied, taking a slow step toward her. He poured two glasses of amber liquid from a crystal decanter resting on a silver cart. "You are an architectural triumph, Jennifer. The perfect marriage of human fragility and the atomic divine. You are the Louvre on fire. Beautiful, breathtaking, and entirely too bright to last. I am simply here to put out the flames before you burn to ash."

"I like the fire," she countered, crossing her powerful arms. The emerald hue of her skin contrasted sharply with the sterile, monochromatic aesthetic of the room. "And I have a strict policy against drinking with megalomaniacs who ambush me on a ski trip. What do you want, Vane? My blood? My marrow? You aren't the first shadow organization to want a bottled Hulk."

"Bottles break," Julian murmured softly. He set one glass down and raised his own. "We do not want a weapon, my dear. We want the secret to your endless summer. Cell decay is completely halted in your body. Your telomeres repair themselves endlessly. You are the fountain of youth, trapped in the body of an emerald warrior. But I know the secret you keep hidden behind your bravado."

Jennifer narrowed her eyes. "Oh? Let’s hear the verdict, counselor."

"You are exhausted," he whispered, closing the distance between them. The sheer audacity of his approach made Jennifer hesitate. "You carry the weight of a god, but you have the mind of a mortal woman. You watch your friends age. You calculate the trajectory of time, knowing you will outlive everyone you hold dear. Immortality is a terrible, crushing sentence for a creature born to die. We offer a pardon."

Despite her bravado, a chill traced the length of her spine. It was a truth she rarely admitted to herself, buried under courtroom victories and superheroic exploits. The loneliness of the eternal.

"I offer you a chance to step down from the altar," Julian continued, his voice dropping to an intimate, hypnotic cadence. "To surrender the gamma. We take the fire, we distill it for our patrons, and you become normal. Fragile. Human. You will age, Jennifer. You will wrinkle. You will feel the exquisite beauty of a finite life. You will be free."

"I am already free," Jennifer said, though her
