D.VA: Heroine of the Hypernet by Jade Gretz

The Korean peninsula crackled with anticipation. Hovering above King's Row, D.Va's mech, the Lightbringer, thrummed with nervous energy. Below, the Omnic horde surged forward, a tide of twisted metal and cold, glowing eyes. Overwatch, outnumbered and outgunned, held a precarious line.

D.Va, her pink hair pulled back in a tight ponytail, chewed on her lip. Reinhardt, his voice crackling through the comms, bellowed orders, rallying the remaining heroes. Winston, his scientific mind running a mile a minute, barked out strategic suggestions. But the tide was turning. The Omnic forces, led by the hulking monstrosity known as the Bastion Harbinger, were relentless.

D.Va's mech groaned under the strain of constant laser fire. A bead of sweat trickled down her forehead. "We need a Hail Mary, Hana," Lena Oxton, her real name, muttered to herself, using the call sign only her closest friends employed.

Then, inspiration struck. It was a desperate plan, born out of equal parts genius and recklessness. It involved venturing into a forgotten sector of King's Row, a place untouched since the Omnic Crisis. A place rumored to hold forgotten technology, both dangerous and powerful.

"Overwatch," D.Va announced, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands, "I'm heading into the Forbidden Zone. Cover me!"

A chorus of protests erupted. "D.Va, wait!" Winston boomed. "That area is unstable!" But D.Va couldn't afford caution. With a burst of thrusters, the Lightbringer rocketed towards the crumbling skyscrapers that marked the border of the Forbidden Zone.

The buildings were skeletal shells, riddled with bullet holes and choked with dust. Eerie silence hung in the air, broken only by the groaning of the collapsing structures. D.Va's stomach churned. This place felt wrong, unnatural.

Following a series of coordinates gleaned from a dusty data chip, D.Va navigated the treacherous terrain. Finally, she found it – a hidden bunker nestled deep within the ruins. The air crackled with a faint blue light emanating from a device within the bunker. It was a dimensional portal, dormant but pulsating with hidden potential.

This was it. The Hail Mary. D.Va leapt from the Lightbringer, leaving her mech on standby. The bunker's entrance was a gaping maw of darkness. Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

The air hung heavy with dust and the musky scent of decay. Cobwebs draped the walls like ghostly curtains. D.Va, her pistol drawn, cautiously navigated the labyrinthine corridors. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the frantic pounding of her heart.

Suddenly, a guttural growl echoed through the bunker. A hulking figure emerged from the shadows – a prototype Omnic soldier, its metallic body twisted by time and neglect. Its glowing red eyes fixated on D.Va, its claws glinting in the dim light.

D.Va squeezed off a shot, the bullet ricocheting harmlessly off the Omnic's armor. She cursed, adrenaline flooding her system. A firefight in this cramped space wouldn't do. She needed to outsmart it.

As the Omnic lunged, D.Va rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding its razor-sharp claws. She glanced at the flickering portal, an idea forming in her mind. This was a one-way shot. But it was her only shot.

Luring the Omnic closer, she sprinted towards the portal. The creature roared in pursuit, its heavy footsteps echoing off the stone walls. With a desperate leap, D.Va dove through the shimmering blue veil.

The world dissolved into chaos. Colors bled into one another, sounds became distorted shrieks. D.Va felt herself tumbling through a cosmic blender, a sickening sensation of weightlessness and disorientation. Then, just as abruptly, it stopped.

She crashed onto a cold, hard surface, hacking up dust. Disoriented and aching, she struggled to her feet. She scanned her surroundings – a desolate wasteland bathed in an eerie red light. Two moons hung low in the blood-red sky, casting long, twisted shadows from the jagged rock formations that dotted the landscape.

This wasn't just another sector of King's Row. This was some unknown dimension, a place beyond human comprehension. Fear threatened to consume her, but D.Va steeled herself. She had come here for a purpose.

Using scavenged parts from the portal device and the rudimentary engineering skills she'd picked up hanging around with Winston, D.Va managed to jury-rig a makeshift homing beacon. With any luck, Overwatch would be able to track her signal and pull her out of
