Ivy Valentine: Chains Beneath the Moon ANIMATION
The Script of Shuddering Skin
Every library is a cemetery of sorts, but the Silentium Archive was a graveyard where the interred refused to stay silent. Here, the air did not merely hang; it weighed upon the lungs like wet wool, smelling of fermented dreams and the iron tang of ancient, dried blood. Isabella "Ivy" Valentine moved through the aisles of towering mahogany shelves with the grace of a stalking panther, her silver hair shimmering like a cold flame in the dim light of her alchemical lantern. She was a woman of sharp angles and sharper intent, her presence a jarring intrusion of living steel in a world of decaying parchment.
She sought the Codex Maleficium, a tome rumored to hold the cartography of the soul—specifically, the geographic origins of the cursed shard that had birthed Soul Edge. To Ivy, knowledge was not power; it was a scalpel, and she intended to use it to cut the rot of her lineage out of existence. Her sword, Valentine, coiled around her waist like a dormant serpent, its segmented blades clicking softly with every measured step she took. It was a rhythmic sound, a heartbeat of clockwork and cruelty.
"You walk as if you own the silence, Alchemist," a voice rasped from the shadows. It didn't come from a throat; it sounded like the dry friction of pages being thumbed at high speed.
Ivy stopped, her hand hovering near the hilt of her whip-sword. From a shelf to her left, a heavy volume bound in what looked like bruised human leather began to vibrate. Its lock, a rusted iron maw, snapped open. The book didn’t merely fall; it unfolded. Its pages spilled out like a long, paper tongue, cascading to the floor and knitting themselves into the shape of a man—a tall, spindly thing composed entirely of fluttering vellum and black calligraphy.
"I own whatever I have the strength to take," Ivy replied, her voice a cool contralto that cut through the stifling atmosphere. "And right now, I have a desire for the truth. Stand aside, Paper-Wraith, before I turn you into kindling."
The creature tilted its head, the ink on its 'face' swirling to form a mocking grin. "Truth is a stain that never washes out. You, of all people, should know that. Your father’s blood is the ink in which your tragedy is written. Why add more chapters to a story that should have been burned at the prologue?"
"My father was a monster, and I am his greatest mistake," Ivy said, her eyes narrowing. "I am here to ensure the story ends. Where is the Codex?"
"Everywhere," the creature whispered, and suddenly, the library groaned.
The shelves began to ripple. Books did not just fall; they took flight, their covers flapping like the leathery wings of bats. From the cracks in the floorboards, a viscous, midnight-black fluid began to bubble up—ink, but ink that possessed the density of tar and the malice of a predator. From this pool rose the Marginalia: horrors born of discarded footnotes and forgotten scribbles. They were spindly, two-dimensional shapes that slid across the walls like shadows, their edges sharp enough to sever bone.
Ivy didn't wait for the first strike. With a fluid motion, she drew Valentine. The sword extended, its segments disconnected by a glowing lavender cord of energy, lashed out in a wide arc. The blade sang as it tore through the first wave of Marginalia, slicing through their ink-flesh as if it were mere smoke. The paper-wraith laughed, a sound like a forest fire.
"Seductive, isn't it?" the wraith crooned, circling her as she fought. "The way the steel craves the blood of the written word? You are an artist of violence, Isabella. Each lash of your whip is a stroke of a pen, writing a masterpiece of ruin."
Ivy ignored the taunt, her focus absolute. A Lignin Ghoul—a massive construct of splintered wood and binding glue—lumbered from the darkness, its fists the size of anvils. It swung with a force that shattered a nearby shelf, sending a shower of scrolls into the air. Ivy leaped, her boots clicking against the falling debris. In mid-air, she commanded her sword to contract. The segments locked together with a metallic snap, and she drove the blade deep into the ghoul’s chest.
She landed softly, but the ink-pool was rising. It began to take the shape of her own reflection, a shimmering, black-mirror version of herself that stepped out of the floor. This ink-Ivy held a whip of pure shadow.
"A woman who hates herself so much must surely find beauty in her own destruction," the ink-twin said,
