The midnight air was thick with tension as Kitana stood on the balcony of her palace, overlooking the quiet expanse of Edenia. Her realm was a place of beauty—lush gardens, rivers like ribbons of silver under the moonlight, and cities that gleamed with golden light. But tonight, the peace felt fragile. Something stirred beneath the surface, something that eluded the senses but gnawed at her mind.

Kitana's instincts had rarely failed her. She had ruled Edenia with grace and strength for centuries, protecting it from the dark forces that sought to consume its beauty. But now, a new threat loomed in the shadows. Whispers had reached her ears—rumors of an uprising, a plot so insidious that even the gods trembled in their halls.

She turned away from the peaceful scene below, her heart heavy. Her warriors had scoured the borders, and spies had been sent to Outworld, but no sign of an open attack had emerged. Yet the feeling of dread persisted, like the quiet before a storm.

Kitana adjusted the hilt of her fans strapped to her waist, feeling the cool metal beneath her fingers. She would not let her realm fall—not to any enemy, no matter how powerful or hidden.

"Princess," a voice called from the shadows of the palace hallway behind her.

Kitana turned to see Jade, her most trusted ally and lifelong friend, emerging from the dim light. Jade's face was tense, her usual calm composure replaced with urgency.

"There's something you need to see," Jade said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I believe it’s connected to the unrest you’ve been sensing."

Kitana’s brows furrowed as she followed Jade through the twisting halls of the palace. They moved quickly, their footsteps echoing in the silence as they descended into the underbelly of the palace, a place few knew existed. The secret chambers below had been used to imprison traitors and interrogate spies, but tonight, they held something far more sinister.

Jade stopped at a heavy door, turning to Kitana with a grim expression. "I intercepted this... thing while patrolling the outskirts of Edenia. It's not human, nor is it from any realm we know."

Kitana nodded, feeling the weight of Jade’s words settle into her gut. Jade pushed open the door, revealing a small, dimly lit room. In the center, bound by glowing chains of enchanted steel, was a creature unlike anything Kitana had ever seen. It was humanoid but twisted, its skin mottled and gray, eyes sunken deep into its skull. A black ooze dripped from its cracked lips, and its limbs twitched erratically, as though fighting against some unseen force.

"What is this?" Kitana asked, her voice steady though her heart raced. She approached cautiously, feeling a chill creep up her spine as the creature’s eyes flickered toward her. They were hollow, yet filled with a malevolent intelligence that made her skin crawl.

The creature rasped, its voice like the grinding of broken glass. "The Queen of Edenia... finally you come to face your fate."

Kitana’s jaw clenched. "Who sent you? What is your purpose here?"

The creature let out a wheezing laugh, its body trembling against the chains that held it. "I am but a harbinger... the first of many. Edenia’s beauty has blinded you, Kitana. You cannot see the rot festering beneath your feet."

Jade stepped forward, her weapon at the ready. "Enough riddles. Speak clearly, or we’ll see how long you last under more... persuasive methods."

But the creature only grinned, its teeth sharp and black. "The hour is near... when the souls of the damned will rise. They hunger for your world, your people. They are already here, waiting... waiting for the final breath of this realm to fade into silence."

Kitana felt a wave of dread wash over her. She had heard of dark magic, of creatures from the Netherrealm that could warp the boundaries of life and death, but something about this felt even worse—like a curse that was deeper than any spell, a corruption that had been festering for centuries without her knowing.

"What is coming for Edenia?" Kitana demanded, stepping closer to the creature. She needed answers, and she needed them now.

The creature's eyes gleamed as it rasped its final words. "The Veil between realms is thinning. A force older than Outworld, older than Earthrealm, stirs. It was once sealed away, but the cracks are forming. Your enemies within have already begun... Edenia’s fall is written in blood."

Before Kitana could react, the creature's body
