Maris Brood: Darkened Resolve by Jade Gretz

Maris Brood cursed under her breath, her boots crunching on the obsidian sand that stretched endlessly before her. The arid wind whipped at her tattered Jedi robes, carrying with it the chilling whispers of the Sith temple looming ahead. Sweat beaded on her brow, a stark contrast to the unnatural chill that permeated the air, a constant reminder of the darkness that saturated this place.

Weeks ago, Maris had been a Padawan, training diligently at the Jedi Temple under the watchful eye of her master, Shaak Ti. But the ruthless rise of the Empire had changed everything. Order 66, a cold command that echoed in her nightmares, had turned her world upside down. Now, she was a hunted fugitive, a Jedi in exile, forced to rely on her dwindling Force connection to survive.

The whispers of a hidden Sith temple, a place of immense power, had been the only lead she had. A desperate gamble, fueled by a flicker of hope that she could find a way to fight back, to somehow avenge the fallen Jedi.

The temple itself was a monstrosity carved from obsidian, its jagged spires clawing at the crimson sky. As she ventured deeper, the air grew heavier, thick with an oppressive dread. Grotesque statues of Sith Lords, their expressions twisted in eternal rage, lined the path, their obsidian eyes seeming to follow her every move.

Suddenly, the ground trembled beneath her feet. A deep rumble echoed through the canyons, sending shivers down her spine. Before she could react, a colossal statue of a Sith warrior came alive, its stone body cracking as it lurched forward.

Fear threatened to consume her, but Maris slammed her eyes shut, drawing upon the fading whispers of the Force. Memories of her training surfaced – deflecting blaster bolts, using the Force to move objects. With a desperate cry, she channeled her limited power, raising her hand in a gesture practiced countless times.

A flicker of blue energy erupted from her palm, slamming into the outstretched arm of the stone giant. The force of the impact shattered the arm, sending debris raining down around her. The giant, momentarily stunned, bellowed a sound that seemed to tear at the very fabric of reality.

Maris knew it wouldn't last. This wasn't a lightsaber duel; it was a desperate struggle for survival against an ancient evil reanimated by dark magic. Drawing upon the last vestiges of her strength, she sprinted deeper into the temple, the monstrous guardian hot on her heels.

The deeper she went, the more twisted the temple became. Torture chambers, their walls etched with symbols that oozed with malevolent energy, lined the corridors. Strange murals depicted scenes of unimaginable suffering, a testament to the cruelty of the Sith.

Finally, she reached a vast chamber, its obsidian walls pulsing with an eerie red light. A grotesque throne, crafted from twisted bone and studded with glowing rubies, stood at the far end. But it was the figure kneeling before the throne that sent a wave of terror through her – Darth Maul, the Zabrak Sith warrior she had only read about in ancient Jedi texts.

Maul, seemingly resurrected from the dead, his mechanical legs replacing his severed ones, sensed her presence. He turned, his crimson eyes glowing with a predatory glint. A chilling grin split his scarred face, revealing razor-sharp teeth.

"A Jedi," he rasped, his voice a gravelly whisper. "Lost, are we?" Maris couldn't speak. She stood frozen in place, the immensity of the situation crushing her spirit. Even before the rise of the Empire, tales of Darth Maul's ferocity were whispered amongst the Jedi – a relentless killing machine driven by an insatiable thirst for vengeance.

"You seek power, Jedi?" Maul continued, his voice laced with amusement. "Power to fight the Empire? Here, within the heart of this temple, you can access it. But great power comes at a great cost."

Maris didn't trust him. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but her legs refused to obey. The power emanating from this place, a dark and intoxicating energy, called to her. The allure of strength, a weapon to fight the darkness that now consumed the galaxy, was too tempting to ignore.

Maul rose from his kneeling position, his mechanical legs clicking as he advanced towards her. "The Sith offer you a path, Jedi," he said, his voice a seductive whisper. "Embrace the darkness, and you can strike back at those who wronged you."

Maris' mind was in turmoil. A lifetime of Jedi teachings clashed with the raw, untamed po
