The Maw of the Void:

The city of Metropolis was still bathed in the soft light of dusk when the first tremor rippled through the streets. At first, it was barely perceptible—a shiver that ran through the pavement and a flutter in the windows. But as the tremor grew in intensity, so did the panic. Car alarms blared, and the cries of alarmed citizens filled the air. In the sky above, the heavens were beginning to darken with an unsettling, unnatural hue.

Supergirl hovered high above the city, her cape billowing behind her like a silken banner. Her blue and red uniform gleamed under the setting sun, a beacon of hope against the encroaching twilight. Her keen senses were on high alert, and her sharp eyes scanned the horizon for the source of the disturbance. The feeling in the pit of her stomach was growing darker—an instinctual warning of something profoundly wrong.

And then she saw it. A dark shape, vast and writhing, emerging from the rift that had torn open in the sky. The rift pulsated with a sickly, greenish light, and from it poured a nauseating, undulating mass of shadow and tentacles. The creature that emerged was unlike anything Supergirl had ever encountered—an abomination of cosmic horror, its body a grotesque fusion of sinewy tentacles, jagged appendages, and eyes that seemed to bulge and stare in every direction.

The beast was immense, its sheer size enough to cast a shadow over the entire city. Its presence warped the very air around it, causing ripples and distortions that made reality itself seem to bend and shudder. The creature’s roar was a deep, guttural sound that resonated with the very core of fear, sending waves of dread crashing over the inhabitants of Metropolis.

Supergirl knew she had to act swiftly. She soared toward the beast, her determination solidified by the sight of people fleeing in terror below. As she approached, she felt the full weight of the creature’s aura—a suffocating darkness that seemed to claw at her resolve. This was no ordinary threat; this was something far more sinister, a primordial horror from the depths of space.

She closed the distance, her fists clenched and her eyes narrowed. The creature’s skin was a pulsating mass of inky black, interspersed with iridescent veins that glowed with an eerie, otherworldly light. It moved with an unnatural grace, its many appendages undulating and writhing as if propelled by some malevolent will.

As she neared, Supergirl launched a series of rapid, precise attacks, aiming to cripple the creature before it could fully unleash its terror. Her punches struck with the force of meteorites, each blow causing ripples in the creature’s mass. However, her attacks seemed to have little effect; the beast’s form absorbed the impact, its surface rippling like liquid.

The creature retaliated with a volley of shadowy tendrils, each one moving with an almost sentient intent. The tendrils lashed out, their edges razor-sharp and imbued with a corrosive, dark energy. Supergirl dodged and weaved, her agility allowing her to evade most of the attacks, but a few tendrils managed to strike her, leaving searing, burning sensations in their wake.

Determined not to falter, Supergirl unleashed her heat vision, directing a focused beam of intense heat at the creature. The energy seared through the darkness, leaving scorched trails in its wake. Yet the creature seemed to absorb the heat, its mass shimmering with an unsettling resilience. It let out a resonant shriek, a sound that seemed to echo through the very fabric of reality.

The sky above darkened further, the rift widening as the creature’s influence began to spread. The air grew colder, and a creeping fog began to roll in, obscuring visibility and adding to the pervasive sense of dread. The landscape of Metropolis was being warped, its familiar buildings and streets twisting into grotesque shapes as the city fell under the creature’s influence.

Supergirl’s focus intensified. She could sense that the creature’s power was tied to the rift—a conduit through which it was drawing strength. If she could close the rift, she might be able to sever the creature’s connection to its otherworldly source. She darted toward the rift, determined to reach its heart.

As she approached, the rift seemed to react to her presence. The greenish light flared violently, and the air around it crackled with a malevolent energy. The edges of the rift were jagged and shifting, an ever-changing maw that seemed to hunger for more.
