Neon signs bled crimson onto the slick cobblestones, casting long, distorted shadows that danced with an unsettling rhythm. Lady perched atop a gargoyle, the wind whipping at her red trench coat as she surveyed the scene below. A warehouse, its windows boarded shut, pulsed with an unnatural light, a beacon in the heart of Devil May Cry's seedy underbelly.
Tonight's target wasn't a mindless demon; it was another hunter, a woman named Seraphina who had carved a bloody swathe through the underworld. Whispers painted her as a prodigy, her skills surpassing even Dante's. But rumors, Lady knew, were often embellished. Still, the competition intrigued her, the prospect of a worthy opponent a welcome break from the usual horde of grunts and wannabe demon lords.
Reaching down, Lady fingered the hilt of Kalina Ann, the comforting weight familiar in her hand. A single, silent prayer to her late mother, and she launched herself from the gargoyle, a blur of crimson and black against the polluted skyline.
Reaching the warehouse roof, Lady slipped through a skylight, the stale air assaulting her nostrils. The interior was a cavernous space, crates stacked haphazardly in the shadows. The unnatural light emanated from the far end, a swirling vortex of crimson energy that pulsed with a malevolent rhythm.
And beside it stood Seraphina.
She was everything the whispers promised and more. Tall and statuesque, her silver hair was braided into a warrior's knot. Her armor, sleek and black, gleamed under the pulsating light. But it was her eyes, crimson like the vortex itself, that sent a shiver down Lady's spine. They held not the cool calculation of a hunter, but an unsettling hunger, a thirst for something far darker.
The silence stretched, thick with tension. Finally, Lady broke it with a sardonic smile. "Impressive light show, sweetheart. Though, I prefer a more personal touch when it comes to demon slaying."
Seraphina's lips curved into a cold smile. "Lady," she purred, her voice a sultry rasp. "I've been expecting you. Heard you were looking for a challenge."
"Challenge?" Lady chuckled, a throaty sound. "Sounds like you're the one making a pact with a walking light show."
Seraphina's smile faltered. "This isn't a pact, fool. This is power. The power to reshape this world, to make demons our slaves."
Lady's smile vanished. A pact with a demon – always a tempting path, always a disastrous one. This "Seraphina" was more than just a rival; she was a walking catastrophe.
The conversation ended abruptly. With a deafening roar, the vortex surged, spewing forth a horde of grotesque creatures. Twisted humanoids with razor-sharp claws, winged fiends with barbed tails – the usual demonic menagerie.
Lady scoffed. Seraphina called this a challenge? Still, she couldn't hold back. With a flick of her wrist, she unleashed a hail of bullets from her customized shotgun. Shells ripped through the air, sending demons flying in showers of gore.
Seraphina, however, remained on the sidelines. She watched the fight with an amusement that bordered on boredom, occasionally dispatching a demon with a single, effortless gesture. The energy swirling around her pulsed with a strange intensity, fueling her unnatural speed and inhuman strength.
Lady, however, fought her way through the horde, a whirlwind of crimson and silver. Her movements were a dance of lethal grace, each shot precise, every kick and punch calculated to cause maximum damage. But a nagging unease settled in her gut. This wasn't a fair fight. Seraphina was drawing power from the vortex, while Lady relied solely on her skill and Kalina Ann.
Finally, Lady cleared a path to Seraphina. The air around the other woman crackled with demonic energy, her eyes glowing with a dangerous red light.
"Ready to give in?" Seraphina sneered. "Join me, and together we'll rule this world."
Lady let out a humorless laugh. "Rule with demons? No thanks, I prefer my victories demon-free."
Without warning, Seraphina lunged. She moved with a speed that defied natural laws, closing the distance in a blur. Lady barely managed to bring up Kalina Ann in time to block the blow. The force of the impact sent her skidding back, the earth trembling under her feet.
Anger flared within Lady. This wasn't just about a challenge anymore; it was about stopping a potential apocalypse. With a renewed determination, she charged forward, unleashing a rapid-fire barrage from Kalina Ann. Ea
