Title: The Wings of the Forgotten Jungle

---

The heat was unbearable, oppressive even, as the sun hung low over the horizon, casting a sickly amber glow over the jungle. The thick canopy of ancient trees did little to protect the ground from the suffocating warmth, and the air was heavy with the scent of decaying vegetation and wet earth. Deep within this lost world, Hannah Dundee wiped the sweat from her brow and squinted into the distance.

She wasn’t supposed to be here—not in the Forbidden Jungle. No one was. Legends about this place had been circulating for centuries, stories of prehistoric creatures that defied the natural order of evolution. Winged monstrosities, the locals had whispered, their eyes wide with fear as they spoke. Creatures that weren’t like any dinosaurs anyone had ever encountered. Creatures that could strip a man to the bone in seconds.

But Hannah didn’t believe in legends. She believed in facts, science, and what she could see with her own eyes. That’s why she’d ventured here—armed only with her wit, a modified rifle slung over her shoulder, and the courage that had kept her alive in the unforgiving world of the Xenozoic Age. As an explorer and scientist, she was used to danger. But this jungle had an eerie quality, a stillness that pressed down on her senses and made her uneasy.

Every footstep she took felt heavier than the last as she ventured deeper into the unknown. She could hear the distant cries of the jungle’s predators, but they were all familiar. The roars of the Tyrannosaur, the screech of a pack of Carnotaurs—they didn’t concern her. What unnerved her were the sounds she couldn’t place, noises that didn’t belong in any part of the ecosystem she knew. A fluttering sound, like the soft beating of wings, but larger, heavier than any bird or flying reptile she’d encountered before.

Hannah paused, crouching low behind a thick fern as she reached for her binoculars. She scanned the jungle canopy ahead, where a jagged cliff face loomed over the dense trees. That was where her target lay—the rumored nest of these mysterious winged dinosaurs. A low mist clung to the base of the cliff, and jagged rocks protruded like the teeth of some ancient beast.

Something moved. Hannah’s sharp eyes caught the faintest flicker of motion in the distance—a dark shape against the twilight sky. It swooped low, dipping in and out of the clouds with an unnatural grace. Her heart skipped a beat as she adjusted the lens, zooming in.

There it was: a massive creature, unlike anything she’d ever seen before. Its wings stretched impossibly wide, leathery and bat-like, yet covered in a strange metallic sheen that shimmered as it caught the dying sunlight. Its body was a grotesque hybrid of bird and reptile, with talons that gleamed like obsidian blades. But it was the creature’s eyes that chilled Hannah to the bone—two glowing orbs of crimson, burning with a feral intelligence that seemed far too knowing for a prehistoric beast.

The stories were true.

Hannah’s instincts screamed at her to turn back, to leave this place while she still could. But she was already too far in. The curiosity that had driven her this far wouldn’t let her retreat now. No, she had to see it up close.

She slipped through the dense foliage, her footsteps light and careful as she made her way toward the cliff. The jungle grew thicker as she approached, the air dense with the hum of insects and the low rustle of unseen creatures. Every shadow felt like it was watching her, every tree seemed to bend under the weight of ancient secrets.

Then, without warning, the sound of wings filled the air. A high-pitched screech echoed through the jungle, sending a flock of smaller birds scattering in a panic. Hannah froze, her hand instinctively tightening around her rifle. The creature had spotted her.

In an instant, it dove from the sky, its wings cutting through the mist with a terrifying speed. Hannah barely had time to react. She threw herself to the ground as the massive beast swooped overhead, its talons grazing the earth where she’d stood only moments before. The ground shook from the impact, and the scent of damp earth and blood filled her nostrils.

Hannah rolled to her feet, adrenaline surging through her veins. The creature circled above her, its glowing eyes locked onto its prey. She aimed her rifle, tracking its movements, but the thing was too fast. It swooped again, this time with deadly precision.
