The sky over Gotham City hung low, a heavy blanket of bruised clouds that promised rain. Lightning flickered in the distance, casting fleeting shadows across the jagged skyline. Somewhere within those shadows, Selina Kyle, the infamous Catwoman, prowled. Her lithe figure moved with an effortless grace, blending seamlessly into the night. The rooftops were her domain, the dark alleyways her playground. Tonight, however, she wasn't alone.

Below her, the city's streets were choked with fear. Whispers had spread like wildfire, rumors of an ancient enemy creeping back into Gotham's underbelly. A ghost story, some called it—others, something far worse. But whatever it was, it had been leaving bodies behind, each one more gruesome than the last. Gotham’s criminals were scared, and if Gotham’s underworld was scared, it meant there was something truly terrifying on the loose.

Selina wasn’t here for that, though. She was on the trail of something more tangible: a rare diamond, rumored to be in the possession of a dangerous collector. But even with her steely focus on the prize, she couldn’t shake the sense that something darker lurked beneath the surface of the night.

She reached the rooftop of a crumbling old theater, pausing to scan the area below. Her eyes, sharp and predatory, caught the flicker of movement—something darting through the shadows below. It wasn’t one of Gotham’s usual rogues or petty criminals. It was... different. Something about the way it moved sent a shiver down her spine. A chill, unfamiliar feeling wormed its way into her gut. Was this the "ghost" she’d heard about?

“Great. Just what I needed,” she muttered under her breath.

Before she could make a move, a familiar voice cut through the night, low and quiet. “Looks like we’re both after the same thing.”

Selina spun, instinctively crouching into a defensive stance, but she relaxed almost immediately. A figure stepped from the shadows behind her—a tall man, dressed in a sleek, dark outfit that blended seamlessly with the night. His mask obscured most of his face, but the glint of his green eyes and the curve of his smirk were unmistakable.

“Nightwing,” Selina greeted him, crossing her arms. “What’s a boy scout like you doing here?”

He smiled faintly. “Following a trail. Same as you, I’m guessing.”

“I doubt it. I’m after a diamond.”

“Well,” Nightwing replied, his tone darkening, “you might find more than you bargained for. There’s something dangerous in Gotham tonight, something old. And I don’t think it’s interested in jewels.”

Selina arched an eyebrow. “Let me guess. The big bad bat sent you to investigate?”

“Not this time. This one’s personal.”

Before she could pry further, a loud crash echoed from the street below. Both vigilantes moved in sync, darting to the edge of the roof to peer down. What they saw was enough to make even the seasoned Catwoman’s stomach churn.

In the street, the air had grown thick with fog, curling like the fingers of some malevolent force. At the center of it all was a figure—a hulking, monstrous creature, its form barely discernible through the haze. It stood at least eight feet tall, its body rippling with unnatural muscles, its skin ashen and mottled. Where its eyes should have been, there were only hollow, black voids, and its mouth—if you could call it that—was twisted into a grotesque grin, rows of jagged teeth gleaming in the dim light.

Behind it, a small group of Gotham’s notorious thugs stood frozen, their weapons useless in their hands as they stared at the creature with wide, terror-stricken eyes. One of them finally made a break for it, turning to run, but the creature moved impossibly fast, snatching him up in one massive hand and slamming him into the ground with a sickening crack.

“Jesus,” Nightwing whispered. “What the hell is that?”

Selina’s eyes narrowed. “I’ve heard rumors. They say it’s a curse, something that was unleashed in Gotham long before the city was built. It feeds on fear, on the chaos in this place.”

“So it’s not just a ghost story.”

“Not tonight,” Selina said grimly. “Whatever it is, it’s real. And if we don’t stop it, it’s going to tear this city apart.”

Nightwing nodded, his expression hardening. “Looks like we’re teaming up, then.”

Selina smirked, though the usual playful spark in her eyes was dimmed by the seriousness of the situation. “Try to keep up, bird boy.”

The two moved as one, descending from the roof
