The humid night air clung to Ada Wong like a second skin as she crouched atop a rusted water tower, the skeletal remains of Raccoon City sprawling beneath a bruised moon. Weeks had passed since the T-Virus outbreak, and the once vibrant city was now a graveyard of twisted flesh and groaning decay. Her mission, however, wasn't focused on stopping the outbreak – it was to exploit it.
Tonight's target – a virologist named Dr. Elrick, rumored to be in possession of a mutated strain of the T-Virus, resided in a fortified apartment complex on the opposite side of the city. Elrick's motivations were a mystery, but Ada knew one thing – whoever possessed this new strain held unimaginable power in the wrong hands.
Spotting a hulking silhouette lumbering through the streets below – a mutated Cerberus, its eyes glowing like embers – Ada drew a crossbow from her tailored red coat, a weapon she'd grown surprisingly fond of in this ravaged landscape. A silent prayer for accuracy went unheard as she unleashed a bolt dipped in a potent Nerventoxin. The creature shrieked, its monstrous form convulsing before collapsing into a heap.
Reaching the complex wasn't easy. Streets were choked with the infected, their moans a constant background symphony of despair. Ada moved like a phantom, utilizing her agility and knowledge of the city's hidden pathways. Slipping past a pack of shambling zombies, she found herself staring at a towering steel wall surrounding the complex.
A smirk played on her lips. Challenges were her bread and butter. Scaling the wall, she used grappling hooks and acrobatic moves that would've put a circus performer to shame. Gaining the rooftop, she surveyed the complex – a dark monolith that pulsed with an unsettling quiet.
Descending through a ventilation shaft, she found herself in a dimly lit hallway, the air thick with the stench of decay and antiseptic. Muffled noises emanated from a door at the end of the corridor. This must be Elrick's lab.
Picking the lock with practiced ease, Ada slipped inside. The small laboratory was a mess – overturned tables, shattered beakers, and a single body slumped over a computer terminal. It wasn't Elrick. This was the work of someone else, someone desperate.
Ada scanned the room. There, nestled in a refrigerated chamber, lay a vial filled with a pulsating crimson liquid – the mutated T-Virus sample. Relief washed over her, quickly replaced by a chilling realization.
"So, you found it."
A voice, smooth and predatory, echoed from the shadows. A tall figure emerged, clad in a pristine white lab coat, an unnerving contrast to the carnage surrounding them. This was Dr. Albert Wesker, Umbrella Corporation's head researcher, and a man with an agenda far more sinister than saving the world.
Ada's heart hammered against her ribs. Wesker, here? Her mission had gotten infinitely more complicated. "Wesker," she acknowledged, her voice steady, despite the tremor that ran through her. "What a surprise."
A cruel smile stretched across Wesker's face. "Indeed. It seems we share an interest in this new strain. But alas, there's only one vial."
A tense silence descended upon the room. Ada knew Wesker wouldn't hesitate to eliminate her to secure the sample. They both understood the stakes.
"Surely," Ada began, her voice dripping with feigned nonchalance, "a man of your resources can replicate it."
Wesker chuckled, a sound devoid of humor. "Unfortunately, replicating it requires the original host, which lies rotting in Umbrella's ruins. Time is a factor, Miss Wong."
His words sent a jolt of fear through her. The original host? Could it be…? Her mind raced back to the research she'd intercepted – whispers of a prototype virus, one that granted superhuman abilities, but at a terrible cost.
Before Ada could formulate a response, a guttural roar erupted from deeper within the complex. The floor trembled under their feet. "Looks like your little science experiment got restless," Wesker taunted.
The groan that followed wasn't the shambling moan of a zombie. It was a primal, almost sentient roar. Through the reinforced lab door, a monstrous silhouette loomed into view – a grotesque parody of a human, its body grotesquely mutated, power coursing through its veins. It was the original host, a living nightmare fueled by the T-Virus's mutated strain.
The creature slammed against the lab door, shattering the reinforced glass like it was paper. Panic rose in Ada's thro
