Black Cat: Night Thief ANIMATION

The Ventricle's Pulse

A heavy, wet thrumming vibrated through the soles of Felicia’s boots, a percussion of bass and blood-flow that defined the interior of The Ventricle. The nightclub was not merely a venue; it was a biological architecture, a cathedral of soft tissue and neon veins tucked beneath the soot-stained ribs of the Bowery. Here, the air was thick with the scent of copper and expensive cologne, a humid mist that clung to the skin like a lover’s sweat. Felicia Hardy, draped in a gown of liquid midnight that shimmered with the iridescence of a raven’s wing, moved through the throng with the effortless grace of a predator who knew she was being watched and simply didn’t care.

The patrons were a monochromatic collection of the beautiful and the damned. Pale skin, sharp cheekbones, and eyes that held the flat, predatory stillness of sharks. These were the city’s secret elite, the thirsty gentry who traded in stocks during the day and in hemoglobin by night. Felicia wasn't here for the vintage or the company. She was here for the Obsidian Valve, a relic rumored to be carved from the calcified heart of a primordial nightmare. It was being held in the club’s inner sanctum, a place where the music died and the shadows grew teeth.

"You’re overdressed for a slaughterhouse, Felicia," a voice rasped, cutting through the rhythmic thumping of the club.

She didn't turn. She didn't need to. The scent of ozone and antiseptic followed him like a shroud. Michael Morbius leaned against a pillar of carved obsidian, his skin the color of a blanched almond, his eyes glowing with a low, feverish red light. He looked less like a man and more like a sketch of a man drawn in charcoal and then partially erased.

"And you’re underdressed for a party, Michael," Felicia replied, her voice a sultry purr that carried over the low-frequency hum of the room. "That suit looks like it was tailored by a mortician with a grudge. Is the 'living' part of your title feeling a bit literal tonight? You look positively peaky."

Morbius pushed off the pillar, his movements jerky, driven by a hunger he couldn't quite mask. "The Valve is not a toy for a common thief. It is a catalyst. It doesn't just amplify the instinct to hunt; it strips away the pretense of civilization. It turns the soul into a serrated edge. If you touch it, you won't just steal it. You’ll become the very thing I spend every waking moment trying to suppress."

"I’ve always been more of a cat person than a people person anyway," Felicia said, offering a sharp, predatory smile. She adjusted a long, silk glove, concealing the delicate lock-picking tools she’d integrated into the fabric. "And 'common thief' is a bit uninspired, don't you think? I prefer 'aesthetic redistributor.' Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with a piece of jewelry that actually has a heartbeat."

She slipped past him, her shoulder brushing his chest. For a fleeting second, the static of his unnatural aura sent a shiver down her spine, a cold needle of genuine fear that she expertly transmuted into a thrill. Morbius watched her go, his nostrils flaring. He could smell the quickening of her pulse, a frantic, rhythmic tapping that sounded like a moth beating its wings against a windowpane.

The inner sanctum was accessible only through a corridor lined with living tapestries—vampires suspended in a trance-like state, their hair interwoven with the masonry. Felicia moved with a silence that defied the laws of physics. She wasn't just walking; she was a shadow detaching itself from the wall. The security was biometric, designed for those whose hearts didn't beat, but Felicia had spent the afternoon "borrowing" a fingerprint from the club’s owner during a particularly spirited dance.

Inside the vault, the air changed. It was cold, yet it felt heavy, like standing at the bottom of a deep, dark well. In the center of the room, resting on a pedestal of bone, was the Obsidian Valve. It was a jagged, fist-sized stone that seemed to swallow the ambient light. It didn't just sit there; it pulsed. A slow, rhythmic contraction that sent ripples through the very air.

As Felicia approached, her pupils dilated until her eyes were twin voids. A sudden, visceral hunger clawed at her stomach—not for food, but for the chase. She felt the phantom weight of claws she didn't possess, the urge to leap, to tear, to taste the metallic tang of victory. Her skin felt too tight. The gown felt like a cage.

"It’s beautiful, isn't it?" Morbius’s voice was right
