Echoes of Power: Samus's Odyssey by Jade Gretz

Samus Aran was on a routine mission to deliver some supplies to the BSL Research Station, a floating laboratory orbiting the planet SR388. She had been hired by the Galactic Federation, who owned and operated the station, to transport some specimens and equipment. She was also curious to see what kind of research they were conducting, since SR388 was the home planet of the Metroids, the energy-sucking creatures that she had encountered and exterminated many times before.

She docked her gunship to the station’s main entrance, and was greeted by a friendly voice over the intercom.

“Welcome to the BSL Research Station, Samus. I’m Dr. Adam Malkovich, the chief scientist and director of this facility. I’m glad you could make it.”

Samus recognized the voice. It belonged to her former commanding officer, Adam Malkovich, who had been like a mentor and a father figure to her when she was a soldier in the Galactic Federation Army. She had not seen him in years, since she left the army to become a bounty hunter. She wondered what he was doing here, and why he had not contacted her before.

“Adam? Is that really you?” she asked, surprised.

“Yes, Samus. It’s me. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but I wanted to see you in person. I have something important to show you.” Adam said.

“What is it?” Samus asked.

“Follow me. I’ll explain everything on the way.” Adam said.

Samus followed Adam’s voice as he guided her through the station. She noticed that the place was eerily quiet, and that there were no signs of life. She saw empty corridors, dark rooms, and abandoned equipment. She felt a chill in the air, and a sense of unease.

“Adam, where is everyone?” she asked.

“They’re all dead, Samus.” Adam said.

Samus stopped in her tracks, and felt a surge of fear.

“What do you mean, they’re all dead?” she asked.

“I mean, they’re all dead. Killed by a parasitic organism that we discovered on SR388. It’s called the X Parasite, and it’s the most dangerous thing I’ve ever seen.” Adam said.

“The X Parasite?” Samus asked.

“Yes. It’s a microscopic life form that can infect and mimic any living being. It can also absorb their memories, skills, and abilities. It’s like a virus, but worse. It can mutate and evolve at an alarming rate, adapting to any environment and threat. It’s the ultimate predator, and we’re its prey.” Adam said.

“How did it get here?” Samus asked.

“We brought it here. We were studying the Metroids, and we found out that they had a natural enemy on SR388. The X Parasite. The Metroids were the only thing that could keep them in check, by feeding on their energy. But when you exterminated the Metroids, you unknowingly unleashed the X Parasite on the planet. They multiplied and spread, infecting everything they could find. We collected some samples, hoping to find a cure, or a way to control them. But we were wrong. We only made things worse.” Adam said.

“What happened?” Samus asked.

“The X Parasite escaped from the quarantine area, and infected the entire station. It killed most of the staff, and turned them into monsters. It also infected some of the specimens we had, including some Metroids that we had cloned from your DNA. It created a nightmare scenario, Samus. A nightmare that you have to stop.” Adam said.

“Me? How?” Samus asked.

“By using this.” Adam said.

He led her to a large chamber, where a metal capsule was waiting. Inside the capsule, there was a suit of armor. It looked like Samus’s Power Suit, but with some modifications. It had a sleeker design, a darker color, and a different symbol on the chest.

“This is the Fusion Suit, Samus. It’s a prototype that we developed, based on your Power Suit and the Metroid DNA. It’s the only thing that can protect you from the X Parasite, and the only thing that can destroy it.” Adam said.

“How does it work?” Samus asked.

“It works by fusing with your body, and enhancing your abilities. It also allows you to absorb the X Parasite, and use its energy to power up your weapons and abilities. It’s the ultimate weapon, Samus. But it comes with a price.” Adam said.

“What price?” Samus asked.

“The price of your humanity, Samus. By using the Fusion Suit, you will become part Metroid, part X Parasite. You will lose your identity, your emotions, your free will. You will become a fusion of life forms, a hybrid of horror. You will become something else, Samus. Something that I don’t know if I can call you by your name anymore.” Adam said.

Samus felt a shock, and a wave of doubt. She looked at the Fusion Suit,
